Tambara Ski Park is located in northern Gunma Prefecture on the western slopes of Mt Hotake. With a resort base at a high altitude of 1300m, Tambara Ski Park often enjoys excellent powder conditions during the season.

The resort is just 2 hours from central Tokyo, either by train (Joetsu Shinkansen) or by car (Kanetsu Expressway) making it possible to day-visit from the capital city.

Last season Tambara Ski Park enjoyed the longest ski season in Gunma Prefecture.... from late November until early May!

The resort is popular with beginners and families due to the large number of gentle to lower intermediate type courses.

Out of the snow season in the peak summer months, the spectacular Tambara Lavender Park is a popular attraction.

Tanmbara Snow Land

Tambara Snow Land is an area by the base of the resort for some fun and safe 'playing in the snow'.
There's a 'snow escalator' and some gentles slopes that can be used exclusively for safe sledging and tubing.
Free sledges are available to rent.

 

How to get to Tambara Ski Park

Tambara Ski Park is located in Numata city in the northern region of Gunma Prefecture.

By train & bus

The resort is within easy reach from the Jomo Kogen Station on the Joetsu Shinkansen train line.
A shuttle bus (as well as taxis and rental cars) are available at Jomo Kogen Station.
The shuttle bus from Jomo Kogen Station takes about 50 minutes to get to Tambara Ski Park.

By car

Tambara Ski Park is about 20km to the north of the Numata IC exit on the Kanetsu Expressway (toll road).
From the Numata IC exit head north on Prefecture Road 266 to reach the resort.
In normal conditions it takes around 30 minutes from the exit (and about 2 hours from the Tokyo region).

Ski & Snowboard lessons

If you are new to skiing or snowboarding you can learn the basics - or top up on existing skills - at the ski school and snowboard school at Tambara Ski Park.

Ski lessons are from 10am until 12pm every morning and from 1:30pm until 3:30pm every afternoon.
Bookings for ski lessons can be made from 8:30am on weekdays and from 8am on weekends and holidays.

Snowboard lessons are from 8am until 9:30am (weekends and holidays only), from 10am until 11:30pm, from 12:30pm until 2pm and from 2:30pm until 4pm.
Bookings for snowboard lessons can be made from 8:30am on weekdays and from 7:15am on weekends and holidays.

Tambara Lavender Park (summer season)

Outside of the winter season you can enjoy the spectacular view of 50,000 lavender flowers in bloom on the slopes of Tambara - as well as the welcome cool highland temperatures!
Tambara Lavender Park is open every year from late June until late August with the peak period usually being from late July until mid-August.
As well as large areas of beautiful lavender, there are other flower displays, a herb garden and a dog run.
Two lifts operate during the Lavender Park opening period.
A fine way to enjoy a day in the cool high elevations at Tambara.
