Shizukuishi resort is located to the north of the town centre of the same name in the northern region of Iwate Prefecture. The FIS Alpine World Ski Championships were held at Shizukuishi in 1993. Shizukuishi has been operating since 1980, though since the peak 'ski boom' years the resort has been reduced in size with a number of lifts and courses closing. Even so, it still currently offers a variety of long courses and is a decent size with a 101 person Ropeway. Amihari Onsen and Iwate Kogen Snow Park are close by.
Iwate Prefecture is located in the Tohoku region of the main island of Honshu. Morioka is the capital city. Most of the ski and snowboard hills in Iwate Prefecture are located in the western mountainous regions, near to the border with Akita Prefecture. Aomori Prefecture is to the north and Miyagi Prefecture is to the south of Iwate.
Ski and snowboard lessons are available at Shizukuishi.
