Ciao Ontake Snow Resort is located on the northern slopes of Mt Ontake, to the south east of central Takayama city in Gifu Prefecture (and close to the border with Nagano Prefecture). Getting there might not be as convenient as many resorts but the high elevation around 2000m and northerly slopes mean this resort often enjoys good powder conditions, and a long season as well. Ice climbing, snow shoe tours and snow rafting attractions are available at this resort. It has been operating since 1998.
Gifu Prefecture is located in the Chubu region of the central region of Honshu island, and it one of only a handful of landlocked prefectures. It shares borders with (from the north) Toyama, Nagano, Aichi, Mie, Shiga, Fukui and Ishikawa. Most of the ski and snowboard resorts in Gifu are located in the northern region of the prefecture – in Gujo city, Takayama city, Hida city and Shirakawa village.

We are still in the process of checking and updating ski resort information for the upcoming 2017-2018 ski season. Many ski hills do not update their own official information until November and hopefully most of our updates will be done by the end of this month. If planned opening dates have not yet been updated for a particular ski hill, note that most usually open around the same time each season. Message updated on 14th November 2017.
