Always good snow
I have been here many times, great resort and lots of stashes of pow to be had.

All the tree runs are wide open and the top part of the mountain has some great drops and hits.

It's a big mountain also which is not packed even on busy days recommend this place

Sunny spring turns!
I've ridden at Suginohara off and on for the last 13yrs, and it is one of my favourite mid-winter resorts. I've written mid-winter powder reviews of the place from a snowboarders perspective, but seeing as (as my buddy puts it,) I've gone to the dark-side during the spring, aka skiing, I'll write about my experiences with that.

First off, Suginohara is big! There are pistes everywhere so you have a huge choice of slopes from super mellow greens, to crazy steep

Blizzard day at Suginohara
I visited Suginohara on the first day of February at the end of a weekend of heavy snow. The previous 3 days had gotten snow and the day I visited was no different.

The right hand side of the map is serviced by a gondola and a couple pair lifts which means doing laps can get a bit slow around late morning when many people arrive from further afield and start queuing for the gondola. Luckily the staff are pretty good

Probably the best in Myoko
Although Myoko is really a series of ski mountains, Suginohara is probably my favorite.

On this day, it was a white out which I love beacuse the snow was deep and not many people out on the slopes. 30-40 cm of fresh pow all day, our tracks pretty much covered up everytime we went up the lifts.

At the very top there are some good tree runs if your willing to duck some ropes.

It's also a good entry point

Great All-Round Resort
Thanks again to another SJ giveaway, I was able to go with my fellow SJ lurker, Neck, to one of our favorite resorts...

Suginohara is pretty big, with some of the longest pistes in Nagano/Niigata. And surrounding these pistes are exceptional areas of slackcountry! Very easy access, very easy exits. Plus, it get's some fantastic snow!
The downer is that the whole resort faces south, so if the sun comes out for any prolonged period of time, this can seriously affect your

Bad timing
We hit Suginohara in February 2014 in the middle of a dry spell, and unfortunately it felt more like late spring season than full on mid-winter which of course spoiled things for us.

I have heard that Myoko is well known for being on the receiving end of epic amounts of powder snow, though we didn't see any of that.

Nice place, just need to time it better next time. I would be willing to give it another go though

Spring pow day!
I used to visit Suginohara often when I first moved to Nagano, as at that time I lived on the northern side of Nagano city and it only took an hour or so to drive across into Niigata and the Myoko area. Now that I live such a short drive from the Hakuba valley, I rarely get across to Myoko and I do miss the place.

I was lucky enough to win not one, but two tickets to use anywhere in

Skied on the longest and steepest slopes in anywhere in japan here
I also went to this resort courtesy of Snow Japan, so thank you to them!
I went to Suginohara about 4-5 years ago and at that time I was probably only intermediate level at best and really enjoyed the resort, despite the fact that thee weather and snow conditions were not the best.
I skied from the top of the gondola station, which is about 3/4 of the way up and skied the various slopes available from that point, and as

Let's Myoko!
When I first came to Japan, the resorts on my snowboarding radar were Niseko, Hakuba and Myoko. Although less well-known than the first two, I’d read about the latter’s great tree runs and vowed to go there. Five seasons on and I finally made it there courtesy of a last-minute Tokyo nightbus trip. If you happen to go there the same way, be prepared for a 2-3km walk up the road to the gondola station after being dropped off in

Good top runs and nice park set-up - posted by smokeshow
I went there for a weekend, they had 60cm or so of fresh snow, so I could not complain! It was my first time there so did a lot of exploring in the trees, found some very fun terrain rock drops and tree runs.

It is a big resort and I would go again - my favourite resort now!

Beautiful views, great snow - posted by norcal
Went to this resort with a few friends a few weeks ago. We've never been to Myoko, but I heard it gets great snow. We were not dissapointed. Early on, the runs were great. Some off-course tree runs as well with some powder stashes too.

The resort itself is beautiful. There are fantastic views everywhere, definitely a must-see. However the great views are partially ruined by the repeated J-pop songs...which I only remember them playing 5 that day.....on a LOOP.

Good snow, fast lifts - posted by joni-san
Second time at Suginohara.

The top quad runs are fun, nice steepness and some fun terrain. Trees can be ok but this was early season so snow wasn't packed down enough so stayed out of them for the most part.

Make sure you look at the course map with friends - theres a lot of vert and the mountain kinda has two sides -gondola side and skiers right side. They are separated and takes a while to cross over if you stuff
