Fantastic Teachers, Fantastic Fun
First let me say, if you want elegant, ski magazine resorts this region is not the place for you. This place is the place for freestyle, jump, ski and snow boarding enthusiasts. It is just fun and manageable with some really great teachers. Our lessons were in Japanese so I cannot judge the English lessons. But I will say that three of our teachers knew key words in English and the instruction was worth every word... of which there were

Spring-slush funanza!
This is my 2nd time to Kandatsu, the previous being a number of years ago. I won a ticket on SJ, of which I'm eternally grateful, but with the crappy all round snow year I had been putting off using it, waiting for better conditions. Those days have passed and so I thought I'd enjoy an end of season, bluebird, spring slush day.

Kandatsu is kinda small and compact but there are a few tree areas that would be good

A great day out
First off a big thank you to Kandatsu Resort and SnowJapan for the free pass. The free pass meant I went to Kandatsu, the great day we had there means I'll return.

Kandatsu is easy to get too, the entrance road is very close to the Yuzawa IC on the dreaded Kan-etsu expressway. It was quite busy the day we were there and we were directed off to a secondary carpark. If you are driving and have a 2WD avoid this

Let's Kandatsu!
After a gap of a few years, Kandatsu Kogen has had 5 reviews in 2 months and here's another! First off, a BIG thanks to SnowJapan and Kandatsu Kogen for the free ticket - much appreciated!

This was a Sunday trip from Kanagawa with fellow SJ member, onehunga. We had planned to go to Kagura in a bid to avoid the forecast rain but when we popped out of the tunnel on the Kan-etsu expressway we could see Iwappara ski resort

Great Place for Beginners, and probably more!
I had not been skiing for 6 whole years, but I had an awesome time at Kandatsu.

I went with one other guy who hadn't been in almost as long as I had, and one girl who had never skied before. Therefore, we stayed almost exclusively in the beginning areas. That being said, we still had a ton of fun.

The lifts weren't too busy, despite it being a Saturday and we had got to go down plenty of times.

Fun in the snow
It was a soft snowy day on my arrival at the resort and what a good place to take your family.

The resort is very easy to navigate and I had no fear of losing track of my kids, even in the snowy conditions the runs all let out at the bottom into the same place so even though my sons were taking different routes it was easy to keep track of them. This was especially helpful in the

Great to have Kandatsu Kogen back
I also missed Kandatsu Kogen last season.

Seems to have had a slew of different owners for a long time now so hopefully it will be smooth sailing now with MacEarth.

Not huge place but often very good snow and a compact kind of setup.

Pity that Milky Way lift/course is only open on weekends and holidays

A playful, young resort; The opposite of GALA Yuzawa.
I went to Kandatsu Kogen using a lift ticket I won from the SnowJapan drawing.

I'm an intermediate boarder, having spent 8 days between Colorado and New Mexico over the past few years. Kandatsu was my 8th snow day in Japan this year.

The basics:

It was my first time to Kandatsu Kogen. I came by car and found the resort very accessible, about a 5 minute drive once you reach Yuzawa / Gala Yuzawa area. The parking lot is a little

Good to see Kandatsu back
It's great to see Kandatsu Kogen back after a season closed for... actually I don't know why.

Whatever, it seemed strange having Kandatsu Kogen closed as it's a fairly major skijo for Yuzawa.

So now it's back. Any changes? No major ones that I could see.

As if often the case, snow quality was great. The Kandatsu 'bowl' seems to get quality snow especially for a place so low.

It was quite busy when I was there but being

Kandatsu Kogen review by Tubby Beaver
After the snow finally started falling on Honshu last weekend, I decided to come up to Yuzawa on the 1st day of my holidays....I was well rewarded.

The snow had stopped and the sun was out, however it didn't have a detrimental effect on the snow that was there. All round Yuzawa town the streets and trees were thick with the snowfall and Kandatsu was no different. There were only 2 lifts open, but actually this still gave me access to

We had a great time at this resort. Decided to go after the rush of New Year and it paid off - the place wasn't busy at all. The previous night there had been 20cm of snow fall and so conditions were good. I wouldn't recommend the place to beginners as theres a lot of steepness going on (and quite a few moguls)

Well, 30-40 cm more snow than last time I went meant I could ride some of the steeper slopes that were bare last time I went. Nice!

Still not enough snow but today only reassured me that this resort would offer some great slopes after a good snowfall.

Choose your day wisely!

Snowpark needs some attention with quite a few jumps closed but there were a couple more rails than last time and a wave table top
