Let's Inawashiro!
Another nightbus trip – 7,400Yen return including day pass – from Shinjuku, Tokyo. I was expecting it to be quieter on a Tuesday than the weekend but was wrong, with the bus crammed with the normal throng of uni students and me, the only gaijin on board! We arrived at Gran Deco at 4.30am and parked up there until it opened at 6 o'clock and a handful of punters disembarked. Then drove another 30 – 40 minutes onto Inawashiro, where

Was at inawashiro on the 26th and 27th of Dec with my family we all had a great time snow was good staff super friendly and only a hand full of people on the hill which made for great sking no waiting for any lifts and the space you could want.\r\n\r\nI know many people don't like the idea of going to Fukushima with all the stuff that happened but all I can say from the info I have is that

I really enjoyed Inawashiro.

I came up here on a bit of a downer, I was meant to be going to Myoko where they had reported 80cms-1m of snow had fallen on the Thursday night, however plans had to be changed and as it was so late in the week we were scratching about for a seat on a bus trip to somewhere decent, all the big names had full buses. So we decided to gamble on here, I've been

Visited with the kid on a snowy day; snow conditions were very good, though we missed out on the views the area is famous for.

Access by car is very easy, just 10-15 minutes from the expressway. And the parking is free, which is a nice change from most ski areas in the region. There is one pay lot on the Minero side, independently owned I suppose, which will try to fast-talk one into parking there, in exchange

When we were there there was fresh powder.

We boarded under the lifts which was great, hiked up to the top of the mountain and found some terrific backcountry in the trees between the two sides of the mountain. \r\n\r\nStunning views of the lake and mountains.

Definitely recommended

After reading good things about the off-piste stuff from the other reviews we thought we`d go and check it out for ourselves.

We weren't disappointed, if you can avoid the ski patrol then there is a load of fun to be had in the huge valley that separates the two resorts. Right across the valley there are numerous ways to get down through the trees and still keep getting fresh runs.

If you try the valley all the way to the

I really like this place! Has one great run in the middle at the top you kind of ski in a valley.

Usually ony ski the left hand side of the mountain (the city side) venture over to the right hand side sometimes but that side is better early season

Inawashiro is a nice little resort, especially the Minero portion of the mountain.

The above day was a bit warm and the snow turned slushy, but the mountain was essentially empty and the runs were quite fun.

Basically the resort is good and pretty fun. The terrain covers a lot of area so between the runs there are many possible chances to get some great off piste. The lifties and ski patrols though are strict, so make sure to have a look around before you go into the trees. There was a short section of off-piste on the ridge that runs parallel to the single chairlift at the top of Inawashiro ski resort (I can't

Inawashiro is just off the Banetsu expressway, and is two resorts in one. The older resort is challenging, with steep upper runs but plenty for beginners too. I have been three or four times, and it always challenges me differently. The newer part of the resort is great for learners, but also has a kind of Super-G course too - piling down that was excellent.

The snow park hasn't got a half pipe this year, but there

Most resorts in the Kanto area that I have been to are fairly uninteresting. This resort has the same apperance until you take a closer look. There is huge valley connecting the two parts of the resort that is littered with trees. Although in some areas they are kind of thick they are totally skiable. Even found some 3 meter mushrooms bringing back memories of Niseko's Strawberry Fields.

The valley's turmunus has a lift at the bottom so you don't even

Great spot for a day trip or weekend.

Fairly quiet in the afternoon once all the schoold kids left.

Lots of exploring to do and fun to be had in the trees
