Niseko Annupuri Kokusai review by Richard Bell
The big proviso to this review has been the lack of snow so far this season - with the normal 2m+ I can see how good the place would be - great scenery, plenty of lifts and a variety of (mainly easy) runs. Boarders - would say it's skiier biased, though not exclusively so.

Trouble is, so far this season the top lifts are not open and so it is currently impossible to go to the summit and switch between the three resorts. When switching, we therefore spent ages on the 'free passport bus', which chugs along between Annupuri, Higashiyama and Hirafu - stopping at various hotels along the way. With the usual Japanese messing around, it was quite frustrating.

We stayed at Kombu Onsen (village below Annupuri) and if you want to do anything other than an onsen outside your hotel, forget it - there is NOTHING to do; not one bar. Suggest if you want apres ski to stay in Hirafu instead - from Annupuri the taxi is a painful 4000 yen, so hitching is a better idea, if you must.

Otherwise, very good resort, but better to visit from Hirafu than stay at Kombu Onsen, IMHO. Hope to be back when there's more snow.
Date visited: From 18 December, 2003 To 22 December, 2003
Snow condition on visit: Light covering, but good quality high up
Things I liked: Variety of runs, scenery
Things I didn't like: (current) lack of snow, ZERO apres ski
