It's still cold up here in Myoko, even though the last day of the lifts has come with the end of the Golden Week holiday.
It's been an interesting season: we didn't have the massive snowfalls of the past couple of years, but that didn't mean it wasn't very good, especially in January and February.
March was an odd month this season, with lots of bad weather to kind of put a damper on things. Funny, since during the last several years we've seen some rain during February, then a return of powder during March. You just never know....
The cold weather and recent snow - remember, it was snowing high up at the beginning of May - means we may have a great spring/early summer season up high in the hills. Tours to the huts below Mt. Hiuchi and closer to Mt. Myoko are now in full swing, and we've at least got some sun recently. Nice if it would just get warm! Ah, corn snow.
Looks like a busy year to come, with many of the hotels already booking reservations.
There's definitely a bigger international presence, but luckily most visitors are here because of what Myoko already is: a nice, Japanese, compact, friendly little ski town.
Hope we can keep that spirit alive.
Thanks for reading the reports this season - hope you enjoyed them.
We'll be back in the autumn when the 2013/2014 season is just around the corner.
