Cloud, rain at the moment
We were told there was a chance of rain last night and rain it did. In fact, it was raining quite heavily late last night and it is raining early on this morning here in Yuzawa. Fairly strong winds as well.
The forecast for the day is clear and sunny though so perhaps it will be changing quickly from now. It does actually look quite bright on the Kagura webcam and they are reporting good weather conditions up there and a temperature of +7 degrees.
Down in town it is already about 18 degrees with a high of around 21 forecast for the afternoon.
It's the last day of the season for Kandatsu Kogen which has done really well keeping open until now. Kagura of course intends to keep open until 29th May. They are still reporting 330cm, and while there is still a lot of snow left there are places where it is much less than that, especially in lower areas.
A mixed morning of sun and rain today, after a night of strong winds again. Meaning the remaining snow is going down really, really fast. At base level it's sansai (mountain veggies) time; the snow line is way up around 1300 meters, although there is a school ski team still valiantly working on a north face at Akakura with a wire lift. Nice to see people getting every last centimeter out of the season...
