Niseko Now!

Wednesday 8th April 2015, 8:09am
Weather conditions: Generally cloudy
New snowfall: 3cm
Snow depth: 385cm
Good morning from Hirafu and I have some snow to report. Yey!

3cm of it as well here outside my place so hopefully and very probably a bit more than that in higher areas.

And it's keeping real cold too. Brrr. Under zero still at Hirafu is reporting a temperature of -5 degrees on it's upper areas.

Nice!

There was a bit of blue sky to see earlier on but right now as I write this it's generally mostly cloudy. Might get some blue sky and sun again though as the weather decides to do for the day.

With not much of a wind at all, I can't see why the planned lifts would not be able to open this morning.

So it should be good to find that new snow up there. I'm going to go and take a look... in the name of research of course.

---

I have changed and updated the information below to show what lifts are planned to be operating at the various resorts along with planned closing dates. All subject to change of course...

Yuzawa Now!

Wednesday 8th April 2015, 8:26am
Weather conditions: Cloud
New snowfall: 1cm
Snow depth: 150cm
Fresh snow!

There has been just a dusting here at base and town level; and the Kagura resort is reporting 5cm or so. It's great to see snow falling of course and it is still falling now lightly. It's very probably going to dry up soon though and the chance of a bit of sun and clearer skies is forecast for later on in the day today.

Definitely been colder the last few days as well and the temperature is right now hovering around 0 degrees.

So this afternoon things should warm up a little and a bit more tomorrow. Expect some sunshine tomorrow. Looks like increasing temperatures will be the pattern over the next week. Still, it's been colder than we expect for early April.

From today, we'll try to keep up-to-date each day with details from each of the resorts that remain open with 'what's open' in terms of lifts and/or courses. See below for that.

---

Official snow depths:

GALA Yuzawa:
Official snow depth of 270cm.

All three main areas of Kagura remain pretty much fully open.
The 'Kagura Park' is closed now but should be re-opening in mid April.

Furano Now!

Wednesday 8th April 2015, 9:11am
Weather conditions: Partly cloudy
New snowfall: 1cm
Snow depth: 150cm
Wow - just as the green grass (well brown grass actually) had made itself visible around the village after months of being under the snow, we awoke this morning to find the whole village under a light blanket of white. Temperatures dived yesterday afternoon and are still in the wintery negatives this morning, but will gradually rise and be back at low positives by the weekend. It is mainly cloudy today but there are some big pockets within the broken cloud letting the sun beam down. Although the snow fall in the village was minimal there should be a good few centimetres of fresh on the resort.   Read more ...

Shiga Kogen Now!

Wednesday 8th April 2015, 9:31am
Weather conditions: Cloud, fog
New snowfall: 7cm
Snow depth: 200cm
5-10cm of fresh snow!

Yes, it's good news this morning. After a run of warmer conditions and some rain, yesterday got colder and snow started falling from the evening leaving us with 5-10cm of fresh snow on the ground this morning. There was 7cm of snow on my car and it felt great to have to wipe it all off. Still snowing now too, lightly. Not enough to hide the icy conditions underneath of course, but... I'll take it! We might get some more cm as well before the day ends.

Tomorrow the clouds should ease off and then before the weekend it will probably start to get a bit warmer once again.

---

The Shiga Kogen Now reports will continue being updated until the end of the season - we will try to post a few new reports each week.
