Mostly clear, some thin cloud
Good morning from Yuzawa.
It was definitely not as warm yesterday and there was a lot of cloud around.
This morning we are starting the day with clearer skies and it should be a sunny day - and warmer again with temperatures rising above 20 degrees in town.
It doesn't actually seem windy right at the moment down in town, but unfortunately wind does look like it might well be an issue today. The GALA Yuzawa resort have already announced that they will not be open for the day due to the forecast wind conditions. This report is going up early and I don't have any other information from other resorts at this time, but it might be worth checking if you plan to be out today.
Rain due by tonight and into tomorrow. For now the forecast seems to show rain at times tomorrow, not all the way through... so we may dodge too much of it. Or maybe not. I will of course update you tomorrow morning.
Last chance to ski at a number of ski resorts this weekend. Come Monday, we'll be down to Kandatsu Kogen, GALA Yuzawa and Kagura (with Naeba also open only on weekends). More details below.

Nozawa Onsen Now!
Friday 6th April 2018, 6:31am
Fine, some cloud
Good morning from Nozawa.
It's a fine morning again. Looks mostly clear with a bit of cloud around and after the lower temperatures of yesterday it is going to be a little warmer again today. Perhaps some rain overnight and into tomorrow morning. And there's a chance of some stronger winds as well though it seems fairly calm for the moment early morning.
Tomorrow looks set to be noticeably colder than it has been and temps may not reach into double digits.
Snow on the base Karazawa and Nagasaka areas has very noticeably disappeared quickly over the last week - the farmers will be able to get working soon!
Friday 6th April 2018
Fresh snowfall since yesterday (as reported by the resort):
- Nagasaka Gondola - Yamabiko Four - Yamabiko Number 2 Four - Uenotaira Four - Paradise Four
The following courses remain open:
- Yamabiko area - Kokenashi course - Uenotaira - Paradise - Rinkan (use this course to get back down to base)

Appi Kogen Now!
Friday 6th April 2018, 7:42am
Good morning from Appi.
There is some fresh snow to report this morning (3cm across the mountain) and very foggy conditions meaning that visibility is greatly reduced. Be sure you know where you're going!
The forecasts seem to be showing some rain later today and then more fresh snowfall over the weekend with temperatures remaining low.
The Central quad lift is undergoing some maintenance today and so in place of that the base Central Number 1 lift is operating.
Next update next week - have a good weekend.
Official snow depth:
Planned lift operations (subject to change):
- APPI Gondola - Central number 1 lift - Central number 2 lift - Central number 3A lift - Central number 4 lift
Appi plans to be open until Golden Week in early May Read more ...
Geto Kogen Now!
Friday 6th April 2018, 7:53am
This morning is colder and we have light rain falling, hopefully it won't get more than that and ease off sooner than later. Though the forecast does say rain for the day with the chance of some snow sometime over the weekend. Fingers crossed.
There might be a good sea of clouds on view from the top today which might make up for the wet!
The snow in the tree runs, while not powder, should be pretty fun.
Official snow depths:
Top: 330cm Base: 200cm
Number 1 Gondola and Number 1 pair lift are operating
For various reasons I wasn't able to execute my cunning plan yesterday and didn't make it out onto the slopes.
No snow to report though - both down here at base and from what I am hearing from higher up. The forecasts still tell us that it might be possible - as might rain - though for now it is just cloudy/overcast.
Quite cold, which is a good sign.
Similar kind of weather is forecast for tomorrow.
Sunday is the last day of the season for the Niseko Hanazono and Niseko Village areas of the mountain. In the past Village has opened again for Golden Week, but there's no mention of that on official sauces this year. Sources, even! (I thought I'd leave that in). :)
There is still lots of snow still around with most runs on the mountain remaining open.
Friday 6th April 2018
Resort specific information (operations subject to change):
- Ace Family quad - Ace Number 2 Center Four - Holiday Number 1 - Hirafu Gondola - Swinging Monkey - King Number 3 - King Number 4 - Hanazono Number 1 quad - Hanazono Number 2 quad - Hanazono Number 3 quad
There was some (heavy at times) rain last night I'm afraid, along with blowing winds. Not the kindest of conditions to the remaining snow.
It's a warmer morning again and a pleasant mix of cloud with some blue sky and sunshine breaking through at times and in places. We're forecast more rain by the end of the day though, so a morning ride is recommended today. Still looking at the chance of some snowfall later tomorrow, so interested to see what happens there. It should definitely be colder tomorrow as well so come prepared for potentially more winter-like conditions.
The four ski resorts that remain open all plan to remain at least part open until Sunday 6th May
Ski resort information on Friday 6th April 2018 (at time of writing):
The weekend is ahead and it will be the last weekend for a few more lifts and areas of Zao. We even had a dusting of snow on the mountain.
Snow melt continues apace on lower areas with more ground showing, but cover is still very good in higher areas.
It is cloudy for now but there is some rain due later today - and still the chance of another dusting of snow later tomorrow/Sunday. It should definitely be colder over the weekend and early in the week.
Plan to be operating until 8th April: - Onsen Number 1 pair - Onsen Number 2 quad - Mikaeri pair
Plan to be operating as long as there is enough snow:
- Yokokura Number 1 pair A - Kurohime quad - Utopia Number 2 pair
More sunshine this morning with blue skies and some cloud. Bit windy but that doesn't seem to be affecting planned lifts as far as I can tell.
Rain is forecast for tomorrow but it looks like we might actually get snowed on come Sunday! That would be exciting.
In resort operation news, the Takenokoyama romance lift was planning to remain open until Sunday, but conditions mean that it has now already had to close for the season.
Naeba will be open until now every day until Sunday. After that and until 27th April the resort will be closed on weekdays. It will be opening on weekends and for the Golden Week period between 28th April and 6th May.
Planned operating lifts (subject to change):
Prince Number 2 Gondola - until 6th May, on days when resort is open Number 5 high speed lift - until 8th April Takenokodaira romance lift - until 6th May, on days when resort is open Daishamen romance lift - between 14th April and 6th May, on days when the resort is open
Official snow depth: 120cm (base)
Naeba plans to be open every day until Sunday 8th April. It will then be open on 14th, 15th, 21st, 22nd April and daily once again between 28th April and 6th May. Read more ...
