Furano Now!

Wednesday 5th March 2008, 5:59am
Weather conditions: bright cloudy morning, cool morning
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Another warm spring day yesterday with temperatures above zero for most of the day.

Colder today again, with periods of snow expected in the afternoon. Temperatures staying below freezing through until the weekend.

The mountain is very quiet at the moment and the runs are still as fast and well groomed as always so get out and enjoy your own private mountain. Careful in the halfpipe as yesterday I saw an injury in there. Please understand that you need to register for the halpipe at the lift ticket office each morning and be issued with a halfpipe bid before you can use it.

A new bar that has opened up in the Kitanomine Area has everyone in town talking, as it is very well done and lots of Apre fun!

Yuzawa Now!

Wednesday 5th March 2008, 6:46am
Weather conditions: Snow, cloud
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Some snow was forecast for overnight and there is just a sprinkling early on with snow also lined up for the rest of the day and into tomorrow. Snow is currently falling so hopefully we might get a fair few new cm today.

At the moment it is around -3 degrees so a fairly cold start to the day and it will probably not rise above zero during the day. Winds shouldn't be a problem either but visibility at the moment is fairly poor as the mountains are not visible... that may of course change as the morning progresses.

Just worth mentioning that the top pair lift at Kagura - the Kagura No 5 Romance lift that takes you up further beyond the top of the main quad lift - is now open. It opened for the first time this season on 1st March, considerably earlier than has been normal.

Up at Naeba both of the gondolas aren't moving - Number 1 Gondola due to avalanche risks near the top of the mountain and Number 2 Gondola because of safety checks according to Prince. The Dragondola is moving though...

Snow is forecast to continue into tomorrow morning, with it clearing up later in the day.   Read more ...

Myoko Now!

Wednesday 5th March 2008, 8:35am
Weather conditions: light snows
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Good amounts of dry snow today and last night have reconditioned the area well, after the warm, sunny days of the weekend. The upper lifts of Suginohara are still closed with no opening in site, making it somewhat average there. Seki Onsen is now halfway between 6 and 7 meters with a sturdy base, which puts it on my pick of the day.

Your Myoko area levels for today:
420cm (Akakura Kanko Resort);
410cm (Akakura Onsen);
290cm (Ikenotaira);
245cm on the bottom (Suginohara);
450cm (Kyukamura);
225cm (Pine Valley);
650cm (Seki Onsen);
245cm (Madarao Tangram Ski Circus);
275cm (Madarao Sympathique);
280cm (Madarao Kogen);
395cm (Myoko Ski Park);
200cm (Togakushi);

Niseko Now!

Wednesday 5th March 2008, 9:29am
Weather conditions: Sunny.
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Unfortunately the weather is exactly the same as yesterday, sunny skies, no wind and a cold morning which will warm up quickly as the day goes on. In other ski resorts around the world this would be a perfect springs day but in Niseko we are all hungry for powder. Some forcasts were saying that there would be light snow this week but the last three days have only brought sunny warming spring conditions. The forcast is for much of the same.

All lifts and gates are open. Don't forget the sunscreen.   Read more ...

Hakuba Now!

Wednesday 5th March 2008, 9:57am
Weather conditions:
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Temperatures today will be approximately -2 to -3 degrees with conditions being similar to yesterday with some light snow,then snow showers in the afternoon and the condition of the snow is still quite slushy.

Backcountry advisory update:

Friday nights snowfall was really heavy snow and is bonding due to to that. The snowpack is generally stabilising but there will still be areas of instability. Fairly mild temperatures this morning but South facing solar aspects will warm quickly increasing the possibility of wet slides - exercise more caution as temperatures increase today.

Conditions are generally getting better but as well as the risk of the recent heavy snow sliding there could be old instabilities especially with warming even going down to the rain-crust of January 12th. It's a big snow-pack and its all got to come down at some point...

Naeba Now!

Wednesday 5th March 2008, 10:02am
Weather conditions: Blue skies turning cloudy
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Looking out of the window this morning, I see the flags wiggling in the breeze... It seems the main Naeba hill is holding up a gigantic lump of cloud, like a gigantic Grey afro wig - as the surrounding sky is all too blue. The sun is out and conditions are looking good for a day of sliding. STILL no Dai Ichi Gondola action on the mountain yet, just made a call to the Prince hotel and they confirmed that it's due to imminent avalanche risk, so I guess we won't loping around those parts until the snow falls off of the rocks.   Read more ...

Nozawa Onsen Now!

Weather conditions: Sunny and clear
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
A bit of snow has fallen overnight, leaving aound 20cm of fresh powder at the top of the mountain. Weather this morning is clearing and the sun is shining through, which should provide great vsibility and a nice warm days riding. This sun + fresh powder combination should provide for an great days skiing/snowboarding, especially earlier on for those looking to make some fresh tracks.   Read more ...

Minakami Now!

Wednesday 5th March 2008, 11:41am
Weather conditions: Overcast with light snow
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
The snow is coming down at 3cm/hour in the valley today with it forecast to continue throughout the day through to tomorrow morning. This should bring around 40cm of fresh to the upper mountains.

Friday is still expected to be overcast with the sun coming out for the weekend.

Backcountry Advisory
Temperatures snapping back to cold with some new snow forecast is a good recipe for sluffs in steeper terrain. In general the pack is mostly settling and becoming stable.

Shiga Kogen Now!

Wednesday 5th March 2008, 17:45pm
Weather conditions: Cloud, light snow
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Well it was a bit colder today, but not that much new snow to report. The day started off with light snow and it has been like that and cloudy for most of the day. Right now in Maruike there are breaks in the cloud and it is surprisingly light for the time of evening.... another sign that the days are getting longer and spring is just round the corner.

For now though those temperatures are still in the minus double figures in the mornings.

May be snow through the night (though not heavy) and the chances are that tomorrow will be a fairly fine day once those clouds move on.

Nighta at the following resort areas of Shiga Kogen tonight:

- Ichinose Family
- Ichinose Diamond   Read more ...
