Blue skies, sun, some cloud
Some good very early season fun at Kagura yesterday. Snow is still rather thin on the ground, but at the same time complete cover and surprisingly decent conditions as well... for early season.
This morning is a similar story - sunny, blue skies, just some cloud. Looks like more cloud over Kagura this morning than down here in town.
So it's a beautiful morning in Yuzawa and that afternoon temperature of 10 degrees is still forecast. Rain tomorrow but it doesn't look like it's going to get much colder just yet. That might happen on Saturday though with some forecasts predicting possibly decent snowfall up at Kagura and perhaps even down to town level.
Latest news on those Tashiro and Naeba planned openings tomorrow. With no snow around town, Iwappara's planned opening will of course not be possible.
After a day with some nice blue skies yesterday, we got lots of rain last night in the village.
As expected, there's no new snowfall to report from the Niseko region this morning and it's a very mild morning with the thermometer showing nearly +5 degrees as of 9am. Bit of a silver start to the day but quite bright.
OK so the good news. From tomorrow it should be getting colder and then hopefully on Saturday we will be treated to the much needed fresh snowfall.
Lift operations (at time of writing):
Grand Hirafu: Ace Family Pair Ace Number 2 Quad (Center Four) Ace Number 3 Pair
It's an easy report today as there's really nothing much to report to you other than beautiful, almost totally clear blue skies and the sun shining down on Hakuba - warming us up again with highs approaching double digits later on. Temperatures dipped to around -3 last night here in the village area so it was pretty cold out there.
Later tomorrow into Saturday is looking more encouraging and it should get much colder over the weekend.

Clear and sunny
More sun and blue sky over Nozawa Onsen this morning with the resort even reporting a temperature of +4 degrees up on the top Yamabiko area of the mountain. It's a very mild morning.
Keeping an eye on that forecast and we can expect and hope that from tomorrow it should start getting colder again. Friday night into Saturday there's potential for snowfall down to village level. Fingers crossed. We'll keep you updated.

Another day of blue skies and bright sunshine. Lovely weather but not exactly what the ski resorts are after as they try to get more slopes open.
The forecast is predicting a little bit of snow from Friday through the weekend. Just a few centimeters but even that will be welcomed.
It is due to be a cold weekend so if you are heading to Tenjin for an early season slide, wrap up warm.

Shiga Kogen Now!
Thursday 5th December 2013, 11:00am
Another fine and mild morning in the Shiga Kogen area as we continue to wait for winter to kick in. It feels very autumn or even spring like at the moment with temperatures rising above zero (after an admittedly cold overnight) and the remaining snow around the roads drying up.
It will all soon change of course, it's always just a difficult wait!
Snowfall looks due perhaps tomorrow night into Saturday, I'll update the page tomorrow with the latest.

Warm temperatures arrived last night and have held all through the day. By morning there was plenty of dripping to be heard from the melting snow on roof tops with a little bit of light rain thrown into the mixture.
It is currently a tropical +7.5c at base level. The slopes are getting a bit tired and definitely need a top up of snow. Expect to see some small twigs and stones mixed in with the snow if you are heading up.
Hopefully the snow forecast for the weekend comes through.
