Shiga Kogen Now!
Sunday 5th December 2010, 11:40am
Sun, clear weather
It is a beautiful clear morning here in Shiga Kogen. The sun is out and blue skies all around.
We had some snowfall on Friday night but things cleared up yesterday and there is no new snow to report with this clear weather, but another resort has opened a lift - Yakebitaiyama is now operating the No 4 pair lift with the South Course open. While there are these areas open, it's still very low key of course and not really the season proper... we can think of it as a fun first run perhaps. What we really want is some decent snowfall in all areas of Shiga Kogen to get things started proper.
Monday night into Tuesday and then Wednesday into Thursday is looking promosing in terms of getting some snowfall on the runs here, with temperatures set to drop a fair bit next week.
Another mild day in Furano, as our string of unseasonable temperatures continues. The tops of the surrounding hills were covered with a fresh coat of white this morning thanks to the lingering flurries on the tail end of yesterday's storm, but even though the Furano Zone still has a fair covering thanks to all the snow crew's hard work, the bottom half of the Kitanomine Zone is still bare. Tomorrow should be more of the same. Expect mild, above freezing temperatures throughout the day.
All eyes are on Tuesday now, when the thermometer promises to plummet and bring with it snow and winter, hopefully this time to stay. Read more ...

Yesterday morning there was a light sprinkling of snow on the mountains around town, with a bit more high up and Kagura reporting about 10cm or so. Naeba also opened their course down in front of the hotel, with that being pretty much 100% artificial snow.
It was raining overnight but this morning was bright and cheery from early on and it has been a warm day, getting up to around 15 degrees again with more of the same likely tomorrow as well. It should get colder from Tuesday though with some snow likely and hopefully right down to town level around Thursday. Read more ...
