Snow and weather reports posted on Saturday 24th February 2018
Friday 5th December 2008, 8:31am
Strong winds were blowing about by yesterday afternoon and they are still with us this morning. It's cloudy and a bit hazy early on, but no snow to report as yet. The forecast now has heavy rain forecast for this afternoon which should hopefully turn into snow - so we are going to have to wait just a bit longer.
Whatever the weather tonight, Tashiro plan to open up for the weekend and more of Naeba is hoping to open as well (up top using the Gondola No2 and one pair lift).
More later on tonight with the latest.
Evening update. What a miserable day it turned out to be. Very mild temperatures for the time of year and since this afternoon heavy rain with it really boucing off the floor at times. It is still raining heavily here in town, but happily it is already snowing up at Kagura. They don't seem to be expecting too much with just 5-10cm or so forecast overnight, perhaps not as much as we were hoping for. Lets hope they are underestimating there. (In fact there is more snow forecast currently for Minamiuonuma to the north of Yuzawa).
While some snow is forecast for Saturday, it's not looking like the snow clouds will stick around for long with finer weather once more forecast for Sunday until around Tuesday.
At Kagura today apparently the shuttle bus has been in use again and will also be tomorrow - unless there is enough snow overnight to make Mitsumata more rideable than it currently is. Borderline by the sounds of it. The shuttle takes people from the top of the Mitsumata Ropeway to the Kagura Gondola base station.
Remember also that tomorrow the Tashiro Ropeway will be taking people up to the runs at Tashiro. A fair bit of Tashiro plans to be open but please note that you will not be able to get over to the main Kagura area. Read more ...

Clear blue skies
Not quite snowing yet. It's not the blue skies of yesterday but still a fairly fine morning here and still mild. Temperatures will drop as the day progresses and we will probably be in for some (heavy?) rain first, but the snow is still due today - we might just have to wait until tonight.... snow is forecast to start tonight and then continue into Saturday.
Tomorrow Kagura will open up the Tashiro area of the resort. Just for the weekend, then it will open proper for the season next weekend. Please note that the Dragondola will not be operating (it plans to start operating for the winter on December 20th).
Naeba is also planning to open more tomorrow - hopefully with the No2 Gondola moving and taking people up to another pair lift to enjoy one of the runs up there. Read more ...
Nozawa Onsen Now!
Friday 5th December 2008, 9:13am
Another mild morning, though not as sunny and blue sky as it was yesterday. No snow to report unfortunately but there is a fair bit of cloud gathering and some fairly strong winds blowing, with temperatures set to drop as the day progresses.
While it looks like we can expect rain before snow, the white stuff is due to be falling later on this evening and through the night with the chance of 20-30cm up top by tomorrow. Fingers crossed for that.
The resort plans to open up a bit more for the weekend, hopefully helped by that expected snow. Here's what is planned to be open for the weekend:
Courses open (planned): Yamabiko A- 1300m Yamabiko C - 850m Yamabiko D - 1250 Uenodaira - 2000m
Lifts operating (planned): Nagasaka Gondola Yamabiko Four lift Yamabiko No2 Four lift Uenodaira Four lift Read more ...
Shiga Kogen Now!
Friday 5th December 2008, 9:20am
After the fine weather of earlier in the week things look set to change.
No snow as yet but it is a cloudy morning and rain quickly turning into snow is forecast for today. It's really mild here though this morning so those temperatures need to get dropping soon otherwise.... well, we can't contemplate it. Snow is what we need! Strong winds gusting about as well this morning.
Hopefully we'll see some decent cm of snowfall into tomorrow, though it doesn't look set to last much beyond that.
Resorts now part open in Shiga Kogen are as follows:
Heavy rain today. Too bad it's not cold enough for snow, or it would be coming down.
The warm temps over the last few days and the rain today have pretty much decimated the snow cover on the lower third of Kitanomine. I can't bring myself to actually take a ride to the top and see the rain there, so let's just say it's not a good day to ski.
The good news is the weather forecast says it will cool down to -5 C tonight, with high temps to -2 C tomorrow, with some snow.
A rather depressing day in Niseko with continuous rain that started in the early hours of this morning. The rain will continue till later in the day when cooler air will move in and snow should start to fall again. The rain has taken a heavy toll on the lower slopes and although I haven't been up I'd think it's very difficult to ski out to the base. It has been wet snow up on top of the mountain though and the base up high is holding out well. Considerable amounts of snow are forecast over the next couple of days but on Monday milder air will move in and the snow may turn wet or even rain at lower levels again. More snow is forecast for later in the week. Let's just hope the snowfalls over the weekend are huge to repair the damage to the base over the last week.
Hakuba is currently sitting under cloudy skies and it has been raining in the valley since 9:00AM today. The upper slopes above 1500m have been receiving a little bit of slushy we snow that has not accumulated to much, approximately 1-3cm at most. As temperatures begin to drop overnight the rain is expected to change to snow and we are all hoping for fresh snow for Saturday morning. The forecast is for snow all day tomorrow, lets keep our fingers crossed for some more! Read more ...
