Niseko Now!

Wednesday 5th December 2007, 6:51am
Weather conditions: cloudy
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
If you weren't on the hill yesterday than you have my condolences. Was there ever beautiful snow. Light and deep!
It might get a little colder with predominant winds today coming in from the west and north west. It should snow some more and be pretty cloudy lending for variable visual conditions on the hill. The temperature should be -6/-12 but watch out for a wind chill please.

Keep an eye out around town as new stores, old stores, and restaurants wake up from hibernation.

Skiing around the mountain is slowly opening up more and more but beware of those terrain traps off piste that I wrote about yesterday: trees, snow covered branches, rocks, holes, and so on.

Yuzawa Now!

Wednesday 5th December 2007, 8:25am
Weather conditions: Snow
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
And good news it is! Heavy snow falling this morning in Yuzawa and I'd say about 20cm or so down at town level until now. Some cars have more than that on their tops - seen one with maybe 40cm or so on there, probably from Naeba or Kagura - but if it carries on like this then we should get a decent base of snow to work on from now.

Kagura have also announced that they plan to open part of Tashiro on Saturday and Sunday (8th/9th) in advance of the full opening on the 15th... they plan to open the Tashiro Ropeway up until the Tashiro No 1 high speed lift.

A further update coming later today...   Read more ...

Nozawa Onsen Now!

Wednesday 5th December 2007, 8:45am
Weather conditions: Snow
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
30cm of fresh snow up top this morning which is very good news to start the day with. Yamabiko is now officially on 120cm with Uenotaira on 110cm with a cold -5 temperature for up there. Conditions should be good, though lift operations will remain as they are for the time being.

The snow has been falling down to village level with perhaps 10-20cm this morning down here, and the snow is still falling and is due to throughout the day and into tomorrow - so things are looking good.   Read more ...

Naeba Now!

Wednesday 5th December 2007, 9:06am
Weather conditions: Snow
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Good morning - and a good one it is as well with about 30cm of new snow to report from around here since yesterday and snow continuing to fall this morning. It's a cold morning, very wintery, and it looks like it will continue at least until tomorrow morning and so everyone is hoping for some good snowfall today.

Naeba isn't at present opening up any more runs or lifts, but we'll keep you posted as we hear more on that. Kagura should have seen a decent amount of fresh snow and conditions should be good - but visibility will be very poor and reports of gusty winds higher up on the mountain as well. It will be good when this all clears though...   Read more ...

Hakuba Now!

Wednesday 5th December 2007, 11:12am
Weather conditions: Light Snow on and off.
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
The cold weather and precipitation overnight in the form of snow deposited approximately 20cm of new snow atop the upper runs today. Riders were treated to great fluffy faceshots and smooth powder carving this AM. Visibilty a bit of an issue today with mist/cloud and moderate winds coming in and out at the 1500m mark. Clearer skies atop the very top of Happo today.

Furano Now!

Wednesday 5th December 2007, 11:58am
Weather conditions: Heavy snow
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
A brisk morning this morning with all the groomed runs in perfect condition.

The 30+cm that fell yesterday was almost unrecognisable on the mountain as it had been groomed out overnight. It was a bit disappointing as the only fresh snow that remained was on the sides of the runs. The top chair number 3 which has ungroomed runs off it was not open, but will open over the weekend. The other "powder" runs in the Furano Zone are still also closed which really limits access.

Currently snowing heavily and this is expected to last through till tomorrow.

News in town is that the little "Coca-Cola Cafe" owner has decided to pursue other business interests in Sapporo and has closed his bar/restaurant. The Coca-Cola Cafe was full of so much movie/American memorabilia it was very entertaining. In place of that bar there is to be a new "sports bar" type venue opening later in the season.   Read more ...
