Nozawa Onsen Now!
Tuesday 3rd March 2009, 8:28am
It is slightly overcast here in Nozawa this morning. No new snow has fallen overnight and it is currently -3 degrees in the village and -9 degrees up the top where there is a light southwesterly of 10 km/h. The snow depth is now reported as being 245cm for Yamabiko and 180cm for Uenodaira.
The snow continued to fall yesterday until the early evening providing great conditions up on the mountain. There is a very hard layer underneath the new snow, and in places (particularly skyline) the coverage was wearing thin again by the end of yesterday.
More snow is forecast to arrive this afternoon to the upper slopes, although it may fall as rain lower down. Wednesday and Thursday will bring partly cloudy conditions with no real precipitation before the return of the snow on Friday, although once again it may not be falling as snow on the lower slopes.
All lifts will operate except Challenge, Utopia, Mizunashi and Yunomine.
All courses are open except Kurokura and Hachiman.
The snow may have stopped yesterday afternoon but the colder temperatures are continuing this morning here in Shiga Kogen. It is just cloudy this morning and -5 degrees outside. There may be more snow later on today (but not much) and then more snow on the forecast at the moment for Thursday night into Friday morning.
The following resort plans to be open for nighta tonight: Ichinose Family
Temperatures got down to -8 deg C last night but have since crept back up to -1 with an overcast day and snow forecast to start from this afternoon. It should continue through to the early hours of Wednesday morning bringing another 15-20cm of fresh snow to add to the 25cm from yesterday. Read more ...

No new snow to report this morning but it is quite cold this morning currently at -2 degrees outside. Right not it is just cloudy and that's whats on the forecast though if it keeps cold enough tonight we might see some snow. Only slight to moderate winds this morning so they should not be affecting resort operations at all.
More cloud on the forecast for tomorrow and fine weather on Thursday.
Nighta tonight is at the following resorts in Yuzawa: Naeba Iwappara
In Minamiuonuma just to the north, nighta at: Ishiuchi Maruyama Centleisure Maiko Joetsu Kokusai
Temps stayed low right through yesterday, keeping the snow in good order. It looks like more of the same today, with snow from late morning. It should be a light but steady snow, picking up pace in the afternoon and dying out late tonight.
Presently, the village has accrued 40cm since early Monday morning. Again, the official snow depth numbers coming from some of the resorts are not reflecting those new snowfalls experienced in the village, so keep that in mind!
Yesterday remained snowy through most of the day but cleared in the early evening. Then overnight and this morning more snow moved across the region. All up there's been another 10-15cm of fresh powder keeping surface conditions in excellent condition and it's another morning of fresh tracks all over the mountain. The Annupuri ski area has also reached 4.5m depth up top, which is pretty reasonable in a below average snow year.
It's currently still snowing lightly but besides a few more occasional snow showers today should fine up. The wind has remained relatively light and there's been little drifting up high keeping the avalanche levels reasonably low so all gates will open. The next few days are still expected to warm up with rain moving in on Friday. On Saturday this should turn back to snow but temperatures will still be fairly mild so it won't be light dry powder, at least at lower levels.
Today may be the last of the really good powder for a little while so make sure you get out and enjoy it.
A lovely sunny morning at the moment with a bit of a breeze whistling around the mountain. The sky IS Grey though, so it's not going to be all about blue skies with sun today.
It was a cold night last night and so the temperatures remain quite low which will hopefully lend a hand to the snow forecast for tonight. Gondola No2 is open today whilst No1 stays closed. Read more ...
