Weather conditions: Fine
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Yesterday turned out to be very fine especially the afternoon.

Overnight temperatures didn't get too low an this morning right now it is around -2 degrees. No new snow to report overnight.

It is another clear start to the day with a fair amount of blue skies around and currently the sun is out. We might be in for snow later on in the day though, from early afternoon until perhaps evening, then it is forecast to clear up again.

More snow is currently forecast for tomorrow with colder temperatures.   Read more ...

Myoko Now!

Monday 3rd March 2008, 8:50am
Weather conditions: sunny
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
A whole lotta meltin goin on yesterday, with temps on the mountain hitting 4 and 5C. This morning is again sunny and warm. Keep clear of steeper runs with these ludicrously high snow levels. The top lifts at Suginohara have closed for avalanche clean up (and in Japan cleanup is done rather over-thoroughly, so I don't see that opening up anytime soon).

The pick of the day would have to be Akakura Kanko. Normally a weekend pick as the crowds remain low, but with the Sugi closings, I believe that's the best course for the money now.

Your Myoko area levels for today:
405cm (Akakura Kanko Resort);
390cm (Akakura Onsen);
270cm (Ikenotaira);
465cm on top, 235cm on the bottom (Suginohara);
435cm (Kyukamura);
215cm (Pine Valley);
615cm (Seki Onsen)!!!;
235cm (Madarao Tangram Ski Circus);
265cm (Madarao Sympathique);
270cm (Madarao Kogen);
380cm (Myoko Ski Park);
210cm (Togakushi);
250cm (Kurohime);
175cm (Iizuna);
160cm (Iizuna Kogen)   Read more ...

Naeba Now!

Monday 3rd March 2008, 9:43am
Weather conditions: Blue skies mixed with cloud
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Yesterday was such a lovely day, the temperature got quite warm but the snow quality was still quite good in a lot of places. A nice way to end the weekend for most - compared to the winds of the day before.

Another fine morning though a little more hazy than it was yesterday. There's a bit more of a breeze too. The temperature is lingering around zero and so we might see a bit more warmth around lunchtime. However, looking at the forecast we can see more snow on its way. Happy days.   Read more ...

Minakami Now!

Monday 3rd March 2008, 9:59am
Weather conditions: Clear and sunny
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Another blue sky day in Minakami this morning with a current temperature of 3 deg C and an expected noon temperature of 8 deg C.

The latest forecast now shows a possibility of snow comming in for a short period this afternoon, and then some more patches of snow tomorrow, Wednesday and Thursday. The outlook for the weekend is still for fine weather from Friday through Sunday.

Backcountry Advisory
Warm temperatures for the second day in a row. Some new snow sluffs and smaller slab avalanches witnessed on South slopes yesterday. Continuing warm temperatures are likely to reopen glide cracks, especially in steeper terrain.

Furano Now!

Monday 3rd March 2008, 10:35am
Weather conditions: beautiful bluebird morning, getting warmer today, temps above zero after lunch
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Yesterday was another Furano powder day. The snow the last week has been a little heavy, but yesterday it was light again with fresh tracks to be had all over the mountain. Big fat flakes fell again yesterday afternoon for a few hours, which is always such a delight to watch and crack a big smile over.

This morning we have a beautiful blue sky clear morning with views as far as you can see. Some fresh snow from last night just to be a little spoilt. Temperatures today will be warm however, so expect the snow to get sticky and heavy after lunch.

The forecast for the next week is minimal snowfall, with a few blue bird clear sky days.

Hakuba Now!

Monday 3rd March 2008, 11:30am
Weather conditions: Cloud with some sun.
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
High cloud cover this morning and a few flakes were falling this morning. Temperatures at 8:30 were measured at -4 at the top of Goryu and 0 at the base, fairly warm with snow melt in the carparks already today. As at 10:10 temperatures were 4.5 degrees in Wadano with some blue skies and sunshine poking through.

Over in Otari this morning a few lines that were there yesterday were filled in today so they must have received a bit of snow but fall in the Hakuba valley was minimal. More snow flurries expected through this week.

Backcountry advisory update:

Huge amounts of heavy wet snow Saturday night sitting on sun & ice-crusts combined with warm temperatures means it is still quite likely on steep sun-facing aspects for natural triggered avalanches to occur and even on moderate slope angles human triggered slides are probable. There were reports of a slide at 47 yesterday and also a large crack was witnessed on a South-East facing solar aspect of the valley between Happo and 47. As always be equipped and prepared and assess the slope stability before entering, also be especially careful on solar-aspects as the day progresses.

Avalanche Danger:

Nozawa Onsen Now!

Monday 3rd March 2008, 14:26pm
Weather conditions: Light snow
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Not much to report today so I will keep this short. Word on the street is that it's crunchy up there. We were expecting there to be fresh snow on our doorstep this morning but the day dawned fine. It has started snowing lightly now but it is quite wet snow and things aren't looking that great.

The moderate snowfall forecast for this week has been downgraded to just showers, and heaven knows I'm miserable now.

Shiga Kogen Now!

Monday 3rd March 2008, 16:41pm
Weather conditions: Cloud, snow
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Another weekend is over and the crowds are gone once again.

It was fine weather all around this morning in the Shiga Kogen region, but since then clouds have moved in and currently there is some snow falling. It isn't snowing heavily and there has only been a sprinkling so far.

It has been relatively mild these last few days, perhaps signs of spring in the air, but still starting off below zero each day.

Nighta is planned at the following resort areas of Shiga Kogen today:

- Ichinose Family
- Ichinose Diamond   Read more ...
