Niseko Now!

Monday 3rd December 2007, 8:07am
Weather conditions: cloudy
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Wow...yesterday's skiing was fantastic and today shouldn't be so bad either.

Passing snows and will come our way but not in the same quantity as yesterday. -6/0 should be the approximate temperature but winds might make it seem chillier from time to time.

The lifts are only open until 3:20 or 3:30pm today so make sure you know and listen as to what's closing when in the afternoon so you don't get stuck. Skiing is open down to the bottom to the Ace #2 quad so now it's much easier to get around.

When skiing off the trails watch out for compressions and unmarked hazards such as trees, snow covered branches, rocks, holes, and so on. We have found many (especially compressions). Remember...don't duck the ropes.   Read more ...

Weather conditions: Cloud

More cloud in the sky today than over the weekend and it looks like it might get to around 9 degrees this afternoon with rain forecast for later on in the day and overnight. There is a chance that might change into snow tomorrow and Wednesday with lower temperatures forecast - here's hoping it will dip low enough to give us more snow cover in the area.   Read more ...

Nozawa Onsen Now!

Monday 3rd December 2007, 9:10am
Weather conditions: Cloud
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
1450 people made their way onto the slopes of Nozawa over the first weekend to enjoy the first turns. It was generally fine weather for the weekend with a fair bit of sun and also mild temperatures.

This morning it is much more cloudy and there is a good chance of it raining later on in the day but hopefully that might turn into snow with lower temperatures forecast for the next few days.

Most of the snow at village level has now melted away, but there is still 80cm of snow up top at Yamabiko.   Read more ...

Naeba Now!

Monday 3rd December 2007, 10:20am
Weather conditions: Cloud
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
More brown than white on the bottom slopes of Naeba now as the snow from a few weeks ago continues to disappear. After a generally fine weekend it is much more cloudy this morning but mild once more at +5 early on.

Lifts moving this week as things stand at the moment are the No 5 high speed lift, the Takenokodaira Romance lift and the Prince No 2 Gondola.

Courses open at the run in front of the hotel and the Takenokodaira Gelende. The connecting run down the mountain is now closed (so you'll need to get the Gondola back down from up top).

As soon as more snow falls the resort will happily be opening up more areas.

Kagura still has a fair amount of snow, officially still at 130cm. With no real new snow since that big fall conditions are obviously not as good as they were, but still for the first runs of the season there is fun to be had!

It is looking likely that we'll get more snow in the next few days.

Hakuba Now!

Monday 3rd December 2007, 10:21am
Weather conditions: Cloudy and rainy
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Hakuba currently sits under rainy skies with low clouds covering the peaks above the 1300m mark. Cold and wet this morning but....snowing at higher elevations. Skiers and boarders should dress for wet snow/sleet conditions but might be rewarded with some new snow to play on.

The forecast is calling for a drop in temperature and more precipitation in the way of snow this evening. Bring it on!

Furano Now!

Monday 3rd December 2007, 12:26pm
Weather conditions: cloudy with periodic snow and some breaks of sunshine
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Furano has seen around another 10cm of snow yesterday and overnight and snow stopped falling around 9am this morning.

Forecast is for heavy snow again tonight and all day tomorrow.

Snow groomers are again operational in the Kitanomine Zone packing snow for a solid base. Skiing tourists in town are almost non-existent during the week and the mountain is full of local skiers and snowboarders. Many of the pensions and lodges are still in "summer" mode and are slowly getting prepared for winter operations. There is however excitement and anticipation of the domestic and international guests due to start arriving in only a few weeks time.    Read more ...
