Rainy and windy. Not ideal.
Mild temperatures have caused what would usually be falling as snow to be falling as rain and quite heavy rain at that. It is currently raining quite hard and is meant to keep doing so with about 50mm forecast for the day.
Due to this and moderately strong winds Family Lift is the only lift which is scheduled to open at this stage everything else will remain on hold due to weather.
This morning it's windy and raining unfortunately. Not the nicest of mornings, that's for sure.
While I am hearing that it is actually snowing higher up at upper elevations, I can imagine it'll be wet. And it would seem likely that top lifts will be affected by the weather conditions this morning - check with them for the latest.
This shouldn't be lasting long though with sunny skies due back over the weekend.
Looks like colder temperatures will be with us early in the week might be interesting to see what they bring with them.
Just taking a look back at the numbers for March. I observed 139cm of snow here at base (compared with 113cm the previous season). That brings the total season observed snowfall number up to 1141cm (compared with 1163cm last season).
The JMA numbers for Kutchan town saw 141cm compared with 118cm last season.
Looks like this season in total is going to end up being pretty similar to last.
To see how the monthly numbers stack up check out the table lower down on this page.

Sun, some cloud
Good morning everyone from Naeba where it is currently sunny and quite windy with stronger winds forecast.
The temperature is already 11 degrees!
The weather looks like it will start to cloud over just after lunchtime and develop into some light rain this afternoon.
Because of the wind situation their may well will be some lift disruptions today, though at this point we are currently unsure of the number of lifts that will be closed. Check with the resorts if you plan to be out for updates on that.
Here's the plan regarding the rest of the season. As Naeba is open daily until this coming Sunday and then only on the weekends through Golden Week, the Naeba Now report daily updates will finish for the season this weekend with a few possible updates by the end of the season.
Kagura of course remains open until the end of May. The Yuzawa Now report page will be updated on a daily basis through until Golden Week and after that a few more updates through until the last lift stops moving at Kagura. So from next week any Naeba or Kagura related news will be posted on the Yuzawa Now report page.
Official snow depths:
Naeba: 240cm Kagura: 350cm
0cm Naeba 0cm Kagura
Planned end of season
Naeba: Naeba will be open daily until April 5th and then Saturdays and holidays only until May 6th (not including April 29th)
Kagura: The main Kagura area, via Mitsumata Ropeaway, will be open daily until May 31st The Tashiro area will be open until May 6th.
This Naeba Now report started updating for the 2014/2015 season on 31st January 2015. As such, the 'observed snowfall season' numbers shown at the bottom of the report will only reflect data from that date onwards. Please read our Yuzawa Now daily reports section for more information on the first part of the season in the Yuzawa region. Read more ...

This morning has surely got to be the warmest morning of the year so far. Very warm.
11 degrees warm just before 9am kind of warm.
Cloud around now but no rain yet... but, it's forecast. Along with some possibly strong winds.
The skies should clear for tomorrow and the sun is forecast (but not as warm), with the rain back over Zao on Sunday and Monday.
Sunday is the last day of the season for some more lifts, as noted below.
With more limited operations, from Monday onwards the resort brings down the one-day lift ticket charges for the 'Final Season' period, as follows:
Adults 3000 yen Children 1500 yen
Next update early in the week. Have a good weekend.

Lots of cloud around
There's lots of cloud around this on this very mild/warm morning with a bit of wind to add to the mix - hopefully that won't be affecting top lifts that are open.
No rain yet but it's forecast for this afternoon but we are expecting it to be fairly short-lived and the sun will probably be out again tomorrow and taking temps up to close on 20 degrees. Keep in mind to avoid overheating!
Back to rain from Sunday with an interesting potential dip in the temperatures around Tuesday when it might even feel chilly once again.
The pick of the coming weekend has to be Saturday.
Official snow depth numbers and operations at time of writing on Friday 3rd April 2015. Subject to change during the day:
Hakuba Goryu: Hakuba Goryu plans to be at least part open until Wednesday 6th May. The lower Iimori area is now closed for the season.
- Alps Daira - 275cm - Toomi - 100cm
Hakuba 47: Hakuba 47 plans to be at least part open until Wednesday 6th May. Currently all open (top to bottom) apart from a small lower part of R7.
- Upper - 255cm - Lower - 100cm
Happo-one: Happo-one plans to be at least part open until Sunday 10th May.
Strong winds are hitting the resort and mountain with moderate snow also falling. As temperatures are cold today the snow has started to accumulate on the ground. It is expected the snow will turn to rain at some stage, and rain precipitation is expected to be heavy. All lift operations are on hold at the moment due to the wind, and given that the winds are forecast to remain strong throughout the day we may not see the lifts get going. On the positive side tomorrow is looking better with a mix of cloud and sun, and only light winds predicted. Read more ...
Nozawa Onsen Now!
Friday 3rd April 2015, 9:05am

The following lifts are open this morning
Nagasaka Four lift Nagasaka Triple lift Hikage Number 2 Pair lift Hikage Triple lift
(Details below are the plans for a normal day... special circumstances this morning).
It's mad warm this morning. Even overnight temps struggled to dip below 10 degrees and it will probably get close to 20 degrees later. Yikes.
The day has started off fine but clouds are due and they are also due to bring rain with them, those naughty clouds. Fingers crossed they'll run out of juice fairly quick leaving us with clearer conditions tomorrow. It does look like tomorrow should be ok, though we'll be back to rain on Sunday.
The interesting news is how the forecasts show a drop in temperatures next week. It might even get to be cold again.
Let's mixed up conditions!
Official snow depths:
Yamabiko - 370cm Uenotaira - 305cm Hikage - 150cm

Or should I say... hot. Temperatures are destined to hit 20 degrees and above during the afternoon today, with some forecasts predicting a high of around 23 degrees in town!
The sun is out this morning but rain is forecast for later today when things should cool down somewhat again. Looks like we will not see rain tomorrow but clearer skies, with the rain back on Sunday and Monday.
Still if my thermometer is correct just now just after 9am it's already well over 10 degrees. Had to double check on that and tap it a few times to make sure.
Lots of snow melt going to happen today, though I'll balance that comment by saying that still there is a lot around.
Planned closing dates for resorts in the Yuzawa and Minamiuonuma region Information as currently available and of course subject to change depending on conditions. Resorts not mentioned below are now closed.
Initially strong winds hit the resort this morning with some snow also falling. The snow has now changed to rain and the precipiation is heavy. Due to the wind, only the Prince Romance lift is operating, and given that the winds are forecast to remain strong throughout the day we may not see the other lifts get going. On the positive side tomorrow is looking better with a mix of cloud and sun, and only light winds predicted. Read more ...
