Weather conditions: Low cloud burning off to give clear sky.
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
There was a lot of low cloud and haze this morning but it's almost completely burnt off now and it is becoming another beautifull blue sky day, we are being spoilt at the moment for fantastic views and perfect spring days. We had another dusting of snow in the village last night but it is granular snow due to the warmer temperature.
Ace #4 lift is not open today so you need to head over to King #4 to get to the higher sections.
There is a possibility of snow showers later today and tomorrow morning but overall mostly sunny.   Read more ...

Nozawa Onsen Now!

Saturday 31st March 2007, 10:17am
Weather conditions: overcast.
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
An overcast start to the day here in Nozawa this morning. A good 15cm of fresh snow fell during the day yesterday and temperatures have remained well below zero so today will be a great day on the mountain. Visibility is much better today and there will be plenty of untouched snow around the fringes of the runs at the top. The lowest runs remain closed but from Paradise up and over at the Yunomine area the snow conditions are good. The updated base depths are 170cm at Yamabiko and 105cm at Yamabiko. Temperatures: -2C at Yamabiko and Uenotaira.

The forecast was for warmer temperatures and rain but the temperatures seem to have remained cold so we may get more snow. Winds may be as high as 35km/h today.

Hakuba Now!

Saturday 31st March 2007, 10:18am
Weather conditions: Overcast with rain below 1500 m
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Well there is hope yet as temperatures are staying below freezing from mid mountain up and snow is still falling above 1500 metres. Hakuba Goryu reports receiving a trace of new snow with temperatures of -5 at the top of the gondola this morning at 8:00. It is presently +4 in the valley and hovering around 0 at 1500 metres and continues to snow lightly. Even though the bottom of the hills are very patchy the top half of the resorts are still great skiing on a relatively deep snow pack. Goryu reports 195cms on Alps Daira and Tsugaike reports 200cms at the top of their gondola. Above the resorts and up into the Alpine expect fresh snow and good riding conditions over the next week. ( See Backcountry Advisory Below ) Expect rain showers in the valley on and off this week with snow up top. The winds are presently light from the West but could increase during the day.

Alert! Expect new snow overnight tonight with a slight clearing tomorrow morning so don't miss out on what is shaping up to be a spectacular 1st of April.

Avalanche Hazard:

Above tree line: Considerable

Tree line: Moderate

Below tree line: Moderate

Backcountry Travel Advisory:

With the high winds and new snows at tree line and above over the last week it is imperative that back country users be cautious around cornices and when on lee slopes. There were naturals observed mid week on Wednesday and Thursday in the alpine on East aspects. With the weather being as variable as it has been it is very likely that snows that fall over night are warming during the day and thus loose snow avalanches could be the result. With the hazard in the alpine at considerable it is likely that human triggered avalanches be observed and it would not be unusual to observe naturals over the next week as well. Take caution under steep rocky outcrops on solar radiated slopes.
Watch out below tree line in the river valleys as snow bridges are weak and the snow still hanging to the steep slopes on either side of these tight valleys is ready to fall with the continuing light rain and warm temperatures.

Naeba Now!

Saturday 31st March 2007, 13:52pm
Weather conditions: Overcast
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
It was a fairly bright start to the day but has turned into a rather dull and grey one and about 5 degrees at the moment. It looks like there is a chance of rain later on this evening (snow higher up possibly) but tomorrow looks set to be generally fine.

Due to stronger winds it seems that the Dragondola isn't moving today, but the lifts at each individual resorts seem to be ok. Stronger winds are forecast for later this afternoon though and so that may well affect lift operations.

Kagura Mitsumata Sunrise operations are now in full swing - every day from now until 5th May Mitsumata Ropeway will be starting to take people up to the slopes at 7am. Other lifts taking part in the Sunrise operations are the Mitsumata Number 1 lift, Kagura Gondola and Kagura Number 1 Quad lift.

Naeba Sunrise operates at Naeba until 8th April. The Prince Number 1 Gondola moving from 8am on weekdays and 7:30am on holidays.   Read more ...
