So, the last day of April. And back to a mid Golden Week weekday - meaning it's not a national holiday today.
Something of a wind blowing about yesterday and overnight, with a few spots of rain later in the evening. This morning it's bright but cloudy, and some light rain falling again. Forecast is for cloud and sometimes light rain for today and probably through tomorrow as well.
Unfortunately, wind again this morning is preventing GALA Yuzawa from opening today - it will be closed for the day. That means that the only place open today is Kagura (at the time of writing they seem to be opening as planned - may be good idea to check with them if you plan on being there).
The good news is that it should be clear and fine weather conditions for the 4 day long weekend coming up (Saturday to Tuesday).
Current planned resort operations:
3rd-6th May only: Naeba (Takenokodaira and Daishamen slopes - may change depending on snow conditions)
Daily until 6th May: GALA Yuzawa (Central and part of North Area) Kagura (Tashiro area)
Daily until 25th May: Kagura (Mitsumata and main Kagura area)
All other resorts in the region are now closed for the season.
Official resort snow depths @ Wednesday 30th April 2014, AM: Naeba: 90cm Kagura (Tashiro): 240cm Kagura (Mitsumata): 290cm Gala Yuzawa: 130cm Read more ...

Some thin cloud around this morning but the sun shining through and blue up there too. Another fine spring morning.
There's a chance of rain late on today and into tomorrow though looking at the forecasts.
The next three days are not national holidays, but as I have mentioned the coming weekend is the second part of Golden Week with Saturday until Tuesday being the last few days of the season. As the forecasts stand now, it looks like we can expect fine conditions.

Well, I'm afraid it's raining this morning in Hakuba, and has been since last night.
It's not going to help the remaining snow of course, and some places that had only a small amount of snow remaining may suddenly be getting bare today. It's all about getting in the last runs now over this last run of days of the season on-resort.
Lots of cloud around this morning and fog reducing visibility in places on the mountains. Still it will be getting fairly warm during the day.
Hopefully we will get to see the sun tomorrow, though forecasts do say there's a chance of rain showers still at times.
Happo-one have an information stand by the Gondola base now with information regarding the situation for folk wanting to explore the mountains beyond the ski lifts. There's a white board there stating the number of accidents in the Northen Alps last year - 72 accidents; 12 deaths; 41 injured; 25 rescued. The message is clear - make proper plans, take proper care and don't be a statistic!
Official snow depth numbers and operations at resorts remaining open (as of 30th April 2014):
Hakuba Goryu: Plans to be open until 11th May. Top area open, need to get gondola back down to base. Upper - 140cm Toomi - 0cm
Hakuba 47: Plans to be open until 6th May. Almost all of Hakuba 47 remains open. Upper - 100cm Lower - 30cm
Happo-one: Plans to be open until 6th May. Top areas (Riesen Grat, Usagidaira, Kurobishi, Panorama, Skyline) open. Need to get lift back down to base. Usagidaira - 85cm Lower - 0cm
Tsugaike Kogen: Plans to be open until 6th May. Top area remains open. Tsuganomori - 160cm Lower - 0cm
A bit of rain later on yesterday and it's raining still this morning. Just lightly.
Very cloudy up there with a dramatic layer of cloud just below the Yamabiko area of the resort ans what looks like a bank of fog on the Paradise area looking at the webcam. Rain is possible on and off over today and maybe tomorrow, though clearing conditions are expected before the weekend.
We have mostly clear and sunny weather forecast for the last 4 days of the season.
Lifts will be opening 30 minutes earlier than normal from Saturday 3rd May until Tuesday 6th May --> Nagasaka Gondola will open from 8:10am.
