Warm sun and blue skies
Another scorcher today in Minakami with the sun out early and blue skies everywhere. It was the same yesterday with the green leaves starting to appear in some of the cherry blossoms.
The snow is still surprisingly good for this time of year with a decent base and the slopes all skiing well. Things can be a little hard first thing but soon soften up as the sun gets to them. Fantastic views from the top which are almost worth the trip up on their own. Pride of place is in the deck chairs out the front of the base building where you can bask in the sun working on the tan and just going for a run to cool off when you get too hot. Plenty of people taking advantage of the great weather and holiday period to sneak in a refreshing beer break in between runs. Read more ...

Mostly Clear Skies
Spring has finally taken a hold on the area, and one could not ask for a better day to be outside. Temperatures have already reached 14 degrees with a forecast high of 18, which would be the warmest weather we've seen all year. The skies are steadily clearing in the wake of the system that brought us all that nasty weather yesterday and the day before, and it should be all sun and fun for at least the next 24 hours. Golden Week is upon us, and already lots of new faces have piled into town to hit the slopes one last time before the season ends. Still plenty of snow, especially on the upper parts of the Furano Zone, so be sure to get out there and take advantage of this beautiful weather! Read more ...

As expected, it is a fine and sunny day here in Yuzawa. It was a fairly chilly start on the mountain early on but has warmed up and we are now well into double figures... actually almost approaching 20 degrees in town this afternoon.
Tomorrow is more of the same but warmer and we might get up to about 23 degrees.
The resorts that are open are enjoying seeing a lot of people come out for the Golden Week holidays and it has been pretty busy out there. With three more days of holidays left after today we can expect the slopes to continue to be busy.
Official resort snow depths @ 2nd May 10, AM: Kagura: 280cm Kagura - Tashiro: 200cm GALA Yuzawa: 90cm

It's the last few days of the season now and fine weather too.... warm with sunny skies and it looks like we should have similar conditions right through until Wednesday which is the last day of the season. Snow is a bit thin on the ground in places still open now, but there won't be any complaints about that - being May and all that! So looks like it will be a fine end to the season.
Lifts open until Wednesday afternoon!
