A hig dump came all for but an hour last night, but steady light snow continues to fall nonstop for the 3rd consecutive day here.
The village isn't quite as busy as last New Year, and lifts have had no waiting problems. Watch for walls of sitting snowboaorders at sugibohara today. They seem to be out in force this year:)

Snowy conditions this morning, with lots of fresh snow everywhere, around 20cm. Strong winds also. The Dragondola is closed today so any journeys between Naeba and the Kagura areas will need to be done by the local bus. Early morning though Tashiro is closed due to the winds and only part of Mitsumata/Kagura is open. Both gondolas are open at Naeba, though you can expect very poor visibility up the top as a lot of snow is being blown around causing white out conditions. Read more ...

Cloud/ Light snow at alititude
Otari last night snow was falling slowly but steadily but nothing fresh in the Hakuba valley this morning. Some fell up top with Goryu reporting 10 cms of fresh snow...today too is overcast and visibility on top may be limited.
Its kind of cold here, -5 at 1800m this morning and around -2 in the valley. The fresh snow at altitude will be nice on the top runs but with all weather reports showing snowmen through today and tomorrow it will be nice when we get another dump down to the valley...definitely needed as the base down below is still definitely lacking.
No real wind in the valley but North-Westerlies up top are still strong. Have fun out there.
The snow continues in Minakami this morning with 35cm of fresh at the valley level and up to 50cm above 1300m. The winds at the valley level are moderate but there are some stronger winds above 1300m. All resorts currently have all lifts operating but some are working at limited speed because of the wind.
My recommendation for resorts today would be Houdaigi and White Valley. Up to 50cm of fresh powder and protected from the wind.
The remainder of the day should see a consistent spanking of new snow, with up to 40cm of fresh expected to fall by the end of today. The outlook for the upcoming weekend is for more snow tomorrow with the weather clearing on Sunday. Get up into the mountain for the first big weekend of pow!
It is a cloudy, snowy morning here in Nozawa. Around 15cm fell in the village overnight and 20cm on Yamabiko, where it is currently -7 degrees with a light Northwesterly breeze of around 15 km/h. The snow depth is now reported as 170cm up there and 130cm on Uenodaira.
The snow showers are predicted to continue throughout the day and into tomorrow before clearing somewhat on Sunday. The wind is also expected to stay fairly consistent.
Snow is building up all over the mountain and down in the village now, and as the crowds disperse after the New Year holidays, there should be some great riding to be had.
All lifts are expected to operate today

75% blue sky. Very light winds.
Sunny & Snowing!
I have to hurry and write this report before conditions change, cuz how often do you get to write a headline like that?
I would say we have about 75% blue skies right now, but a little snow is falling and it's beautiful. Judging by the weather report, a storm will be moving in this afternoon from the west. So best enjoy the sun while it's here.
No new snow this morning, but what we have is in great shape. A perfect day for cruising.
Overnight there were some noisy winds blowing about outside, and it is still fairly windy out there but at the moment things are a bit calmer.
Some more snow to report this morning. About 10+cm on the car again, with Naeba reporting 20cm of fresh snow. Up there the winds are still affecting lift operation with the Dragondola, all of Tashiro closed and only part of Mitsumata/Kagura open early morning.
Down in the town, it seems that resorts are open as normal. Fairly low visibility but nice conditions with the new snow over the last few days.
More snow is forecast right through the weekend.
Nighta tonight at the following resorts in Yuzawa: Naeba Yuzawa Nakazato Yuzawa Park Iwappara NASPA Ski Garden Nunoba
More light snow last night and this morning which has given the slopes a topup but still not the heavy snow that pushes those snow depth numbers up to the levels we are used to. While most of the runs and lifts are open as they have been for a week or so now, we could still do with that heavy dump of snow.
A few of the resort areas in the northern part of Shiga Kogen (Okushiga, Yakebitaiyama, Ichinose) are reporting an increase in snow depth, though the ones further south (Kumanoyu, Yokoteyama) aren't this morning.
Tomorrow the first "First Tracks" of the season will be had at Yakebitaiyama allowing people to ride the gondola from 7:30am (instead of the normal opening time of 8am) at an extra cost of 1000 yen for hotel guests and 1500 yen for non hotel guests. Now if they did that from 6am, I might be tempted...
The following resorts plan to be open for nighta tonight: Sun Valley Maruike Mammoth Ichinose Family Ichinose Diamond Yakebitaiyama Kumanoyu
