Early report from Yuzawa this morning.
It's a cloudy start to the day here, with rain falling as I write this report - though it looks like it will probably be a passing shower. It's brighter over Yuzawa than neighbouring Minamiuonuma and the local forecast does actually tell us to expect sun this morning, perhaps a bit of rain tomorrow. A high of around 8 degrees today and 10 degrees tomorrow.
Basiscally it's rather changeable at the moment and the forecasts haven't been too accurate of late, as I think I mentioned last week.
Kagura is reporting no new snow and a temperature of -2, northerly wind at 2m/s.
Light snow falling on upper elevations earlier this morning and a bit wet with some rain here in the village as of 8am. It looks set to clear up though and cloud with sun later in forecast for the day. It is 2 degrees at the moment, with a high of around 8C forecast for later.
Not much else to report this morning. I'll be trying to keep up to date with all of the reported snowfall from the resorts below, as well as which lifts are moving at each of the resorts in this early stage of the season.

Just over 5cm of fresh snow since my report yesterday. Yesterday it was a mix of light snow falling and strong winds at times during the daytime. This morning light snow falling once again with complete cloud cover. As of 9am it is 1C here in the Hirafu village area. Less wind than yesterday here at base, with winds up to 7m/s reported by Niseko Grand Hirafu.
It looks like ongoing light snowfall is the most we can expect over the coming few days. We'll just have to see whether the resorts continue to open up more gradually or wait until there's a considerable snowfall. For the moment, operations remain unchanged this morning.
In this very early part of the season I'll keep a note of which lifts are moving in the reports below
Lift operations (at time of writing):
Grand Hirafu: Ace Family Pair Ace Number 2 Quad (Center Four) Ace Number 3 Pair
First weekday of the season at Nozawa and all feels quiet. Locals are still busy getting ready for the full-on season, but there's not many other people about.
No new snowfall to report in Nozawa and it's a cloudy start to the day. We might get to see the sun later, and tomorrow too.
The resort staff held a small formal ceremony yesterday praying for a safe season at the resort. The Nozawa mascot was also present. Let's hope it works!

Furano Ski Area commenced operation for the 2013-14 season yesterday.
Very few made it up for the opening but those who did were treated to the best quality snow I have ever seen on an opening day. 10cm of snow fell Sunday morning and there has been another 10cm fall this morning, so conditions are improving substantially on a day by day basis.
Temperatures are still warmer than is ideal but the top is staying below the magic 0C mark.
Good morning from Shiga Kogen. As we still wait for winter to really kick in, there remains 3 parts of Shiga Kogen that are part open this morning.
It's a cloudy morning with the temperature hovering around 0C at the moment. Just a light wind and not many people around. For the coming few days we can expect a mix of cloud and clear weather, perhaps a sprinkling of snow some nights - but nothing major.
Resorts that are currently part open (as of Monday 2nd December 2013):
Takamagahara: Reporting 30cm of snow; -0.4C Number 2 triple lift
Ichinose Family: Reporting 30cm of snow; -1.8C Ichinose Number 2 pair lift
Kumanoyu (skiers only): Reporting 30cm of snow; -3.5C Kumanoyu Number 2 pair lift
Other resort areas remain closed as we wait for snow. Read more ...
