The sun is out again this morning here in Hirafu and it might well warm up to around 10C in town today.
Cloudier conditions forecast for tomorrow but it will be keeping warm and the chance of rain later on.
Snow is still looking likely going into the weekend. It's going to be fun finding out what happens there.
I'm going to post this again as lots of you probably missed it yesterday as it was an update to an already posted report....
As we are now into new month, lets look at those snow depth numbers for March and the season as a whole:
Observed snowfall in Hirafu for March 2014: 113cm Observed snowfall in Hirafu for the 13/14 season so far: 1150cm
Compare that with the numbers from last season (observations made by the same person in the same place):
Observed snowfall in Hirafu for March 2014: 164cm Observed snowfall in Hirafu for the 12/13 season at end of March 2013: 1549cm
Still lots of snow of course, but there was a fair chunk more of it last year - 5m more in fact.
Last year in April we observed 32cm by the way.
(All of these numbers can be found at the lower part of the Niseko Now reports).
Let's also take a look at the Japan Meteorological Agency statistics for snowfall recorded in Kutchan town as well:
March 2014: 118cm March 2013: 124cm March 2012: 79cm March 2011: 210cm
The JMA Kutchan number for April ranges from nothing to around 30cm.

Sun, blue sky
It is another clear and sunny spring morning in Hakuba. Temps dipped to just under zero here in the village overnight and it's a quite chilly start to the day but should be warming up again so the icy snow conditions should quickly loosen up.
Good chance of rain tomorrow and Friday, snow overnight into Saturday? I'm looking forward to finding out! It is definitely due to get much colder for the weekend though. Can we have another last quick blast of winter?

Sunny with some high cloud
Still sunny, still warm, but a few light clouds coming in today. A small chance of rain, they say, although it's looking a little better than the original long-term forecast. The snow is really disappearing fast below the base of Akakan (especailly with the wind blowing pretty hard), so it's time to get out there and enjoy while you can.

Ikenotaira: Planning to stay open until April 6; three lifts running.
