It's a brisk -2 currently in the village, and Furano is bracing for it's first real bout with winter this year. A system moving through the area should hit before daybreak, driving up temperatures to above freezing before the front moves through and brings us some much needed snow for the next 72 hours. Things are predicted to start off as rain around 6am, changing to a wintry mix by 9, and then to all snow from lunchtime onwards, accompanied by below-freezing temperatures for the next couple of days, which means that what does fall should stick around.
We were lucky enough to catch some snow on the tail end of today's storm, but the slopes are still bare towards the bottom. Currently the ski slopes have still yet to open, but they crews were busy getting the snow machines up and running all day. Tomorrow they should get a significant boost from Mother Nature.
Winter is here at last. This morning we awoke to a fresh 7cm of powder with flurries flying off and on throughout the day. The town is covered in white, and the ski slopes are officially scheduled to open on Tuesday, November 30th, although it will only be a few runs in the Furano Zone that will see any action for the time being.
According to the forecast, it should stay below freezing until friday, with fresh snow falling every day through Thursday. The roads are extremely dicey, so please be careful when out and about. Things are currently fairly quite, with a few off and on snow showers making there way through the area, but don't be surprised if we pick a few more centimeters before the night is out. Cloud, rain, hopefully snow higher up
After a day of sun yesterday, it got colder overnight and this morning is a more wintery-feeling one - though no snowfall as yet. Lower down the mountain it is raining but a chance of some snowfall up top today and into tomorrow.... so fingers crossed it will stay cold and we can get a fresh blanket up there.
Fine clearer weather is currently forecast to return on Tuesday into Wednesday. Read more ...
