Yuzawa Now!

Weather conditions: Rain, cloud, mist
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Another wet morning here, though right now just spots of rain falling in the town. There is a lot of low lying cloud and fast moving mist so right now most of the mountains around the town are not visible. There's a breeze this morning but it's all a bit too mild to expect snow - unfortunately it is even raining up at Kagura and Naeba, where they have announced that they will open the No 2 Gondola and a pair lift up at the top if we are lucky enough to get any natural snowfall over the weekend. Strong winds at Kagura also mean that Kagura No 4 Romance lift will not be operating today.

While Kagura remains open as it was a week ago, with some snow melting away since then some of the courses (specificially Family Course, Gondola Line, Gondola Course bottom part) are not in the best of conditions and the resort is asking people to take care - basically it's a bit patchy in places.

Doesn't look like we can expect any significant snowfall over the weekend but we'll update this page tonight with the latest for the weekend.   Read more ...

Rain rain go away, come back... well, in May preferably!

It is raining this morning, even up on Kaguras slopes unfortunately. All a bit too mild for it to be snowing right now.

Doesn't look like we can expect any significant snowfall over the weekend but fingers crossed they might be able to open up more of Naeba soon...   Read more ...

Weather conditions: Cloud, mist

I have good news this morning - the resort is planning to open tomorrow (Saturday)!

They are planning to open up the Yamabiko area to us impatients early tomorrow morning with the following courses and lifts working:

Courses:
Yamabiko A
Yamabiko B
Yamabiko C
Yamabiko D

Lifts:
Nagasaka Gondola
Yamabiko Four
Yamabiko No 2 Four

This morning it is very cloudy and lots of mist swirling around and also spots of rain, but the less we say about that the better! It is quite a mild morning and so we will need those temperatures to lower to expect any decent snowfall.

Yamabiko is reporting 45cm of snow, so not huge deep snow to be had but enough for those first slides of the season up there.   Read more ...

Shiga Kogen Now!

Friday 28th November 2008, 10:33am
Weather conditions: Cloud, light rain
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
We haven't had that big dump to really kick things off yet and unfortunately this morning is rather mild and we actually have rain falling in the area --- but, more of Shiga Kogen is managing to open up today. While it was rain in some areas last night, there has been a sprikling of fresh snow up on the top of Yokoteyama overnight, but not much in terms of cm.

This morning, one lift at Ichinose Family, one lift at Kumanoyu (though on standby due to strong winds) and two lifts at Yokoteyama are planned to be moving and tomorrow another lift over at Yakebitaiyama is planning to be running for the first time this season.

Yokoteyama is offering the longest course with No 1 and No 2 courses open giving skiers and 2.8km run to enjoy.

Hoping for snow over the weekend, though it still does not look likely that we can expect significant snowfall.   Read more ...

Niseko Now!

Friday 28th November 2008, 11:08am
Weather conditions: Overcast
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
The rain yesterday passed through quickly and fell as snow on the upper mountain. So far the impact on the snowpack has been minimal. The skies cleared overnight and the temp dropped to -5. Currently it is overcast, cool and fine. Rain is still predicted for later tomorrow at lower levels but it should turn to snow overnight into Sunday.

The current forecast for next week isn't looking great with mostly fine weather and very mild temperatures. The next system looks like it won't hit till next Friday.

Furano Now!

Weather conditions: Cloudy, windy.
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
No Change in Furano

The only good news is that it shouldn't get above freezing today, so the base will stay. Cloudy and windy today. Snow is kind of icy.

Although the Kitanomine side is still closed, I noticed three sets of tracks yesterday down the lower half. Looked nice.

No real snow forecast for the next week. We're kind of in a holding pattern, with a good base down, and waiting for the big stuff to build on top of it.
