Snow and weather reports posted on Thursday 14th December 2017

OK I'll update you today and not wait - I can't wait when the lower slopes of Naeba have a nice new coating of snow to report. Some wild weather overnight but the main point is that it has been snowing and we have snow here in the village area.
Kagura is reporting 10-15cm of fresh snow up there this morning. They are also reporting strong winds as well, though apparently that is not stopping them opening as normal this morning.
The snow is due to clear up by the end of today with tomorrow forecast to be less cold and clearer weather conditions.
Official resort snow depth: Kagura - 70cm
Planned opening dates: Kagura (Tashiro) on December 8th Naeba on December 8th Read more ...

Another attempted start to the snow season, with 8cm here at base level. It looks like it will continue through the day this time, though, with the weather reports predicting upwards of 30cm. Good, very heavy, sticky snow that makes driving a little tricky; lots of cars struggling up the slope to Akakura this morning.
I feel like writing more, but there's not much to say! November and early December: the holding period before the fun begins. Read more ...

Sleet turning into snow
Last night we got rained on and blown about by some pretty strong winds but this morning it has been trying to snow and indeed right now is snowing. It might still be wet snow, but it's snowing and the forecast is for that to last the day so hopefully we might be much whiter by the end of it.
Higher up it has been snowing properly with Kagura resort reporting 10-15cm of new snowfall. Still some strongish winds up there and so not the most friendly of conditions but the new snow should make up for that for the people making it out there.
Tomorrow we will likely be seeing more of the sun and warmer temperatures.
Planned opening dates:
8th December Iwappara Naeba Kagura (Tashiro) Joetsu Kokusai
15th December Yuzawa Nakazato Kandatsu Kogen Maiko Snow Resort
21st December Ishiuchi Maruyama Yuzawa Park
22nd December Gala Yuzawa NASPA Ski Garden Ipponsugi
I said 'until tomorrow', but I thought I would give you an update. Not very good news since I posted the morning report, I'm afraid.
Rain has been falling in Niseko, which has somewhat dampened some spirits after such a fun weekend, and I doubt there are as many people out there on the lifts now. At least it has been trying to turn into sleet and it does seem likely that it will soon be snowing once again. More of that wet snow at first no doubt, but hopefully it will be more like what we expect in Niseko by tomorrow and beyond as things still look set to get colder again, especially once we get to the end of the week.
Perhaps the last rain of the year? Would be nice!
Yesterday was one of those days best forgotten, and we can forgive 'nature' especially as we are still in November. Just a dusting of snowfall since yesterday through until early this morning, and in reality the rain will have done some damage out there though hopefully limited, and will actually have helped compact the snow base out there.
This morning I am happy to report that we are back to snow in Niseko along with those strong winds that we were told to expect - Hirafu reporting winds of 15m/s in upper areas and probably stronger. (They have also increased the snow depth numbers to 140cm this morning). Once the winds calm down, fingers crossed the snow is here to stay.
At the time of writing, Hirafu only has the lower Ace Number 1 pair lift moving with the two usual lifts on standby due to the blizzard like conditions out there. Annupuri is closed with no lifts moving this morning.
Perhaps today is a good time to check out some local hot springs or one of the places opening up for a good meal, I think! Hopefully tomorrow I will have some nice new snowy news to report.
Good morning from a very winter-like and snowy Hakuba. There's not much to see this morning actually as it's an almost total white-out, where I am anyway. The cars are moving slowly on the roads as the people who still haven't changed their tyres to snow tyres suddenly regret leaving it so late!
There's a good 10-20cm of snow to report this morning, perhaps more in places. Close to 20cm outside my door and it is still coming down now so if this continues during the day we should be feeling much more positive after that wet and dreary day that we had yesterday. It's still relatively wet snow, but forecast to get drier as the day goes on.
Goryu are reporting 15cm of fresh snow on their slopes. 47 are actually closed once again - the rain yesterday did it's damage that the snow so far hasn't been able to fix up, but with the snow coming down as it it that will probably soon change once again.
As much as I'd like to tell you that this snow is due to continue for a week.... it's not! Tomorrow we will very probably see lots of the sun and it will be much warmer than today. It will probably be the weekend before we can realistically expect any real new snowfall. So come on, let's have lots today please.
Yesterdays major event was the rain that fell in Furano and turned the nice snowy streets into slush. This is now well gone and the snow has returned and has already left a fresh layer of 5cm around the village. Unfortunately we can't ski on it at the moment due to the moderate winds interferring with the operation of Furano Ropeway which is on hold at the moment. Read more ...
Nozawa Onsen Now!
Tuesday 27th November 2012, 9:35am
Morning from Nozawa. And it's a snowy one. I was going to post a report yesterday but with one thing and another - mostly the rain - I thought I would wait until today. Yes it was a wet one yesterday as in many parts of the region, but overnight it turned into snow and we have some down to village this morning and the slopes are looking all nice and white once again. Hurray!
Doesn't look like it will continue beyond today though with clearer and warmer conditions forecast for tomorrow and then the next snowfall around the weekend.
Nozawa is of course hoping to open on 1st December. Opening us usually just the upper slopes, and so we'll just have to see what the situation is in the next few days to see whether that might be able to happen or not. I'll let you know. Read more ...

Happy to report that snow is falling in Minakami this morning. It started in the early hours and is settling down in the valley. Houdaigi say they have 5cm of fresh snow up there and up at Tenjin the new stuff on top of the existing base gives them a total of 55cm.
