Yesterday kept fairly cold throughout the day and it was generally just grey and cloudy. It looks like we may well be in for more of the same today. Just cloud on the forecast with a high temperature of around 4 degrees.
Weather for the weekend? Looks like tomorrow will be one of those fine sunny days from early on with more fine weather on Sunday, so unlikely to see any fresh snow before then. Still lots of fun to be had though.... hsve a good one!
ighta tonight is at the following resorts in Yuzawa: Naeba Iwappara
In Minamiuonuma just to the north, nighta at: Ishiuchi Maruyama Centleisure Maiko Joetsu Kokusai
Light snow presently falling at the valley level which should continue through to late this afternoon. The clouds are low today which means visibility will be limited at most ski areas. No real wind to speak of so the snow should settle nicely.
Tomorrow looks like a blue bird sunny day, so looks like a great day to get out there and rip it up! Read more ...

Low cloud is shrouding Mt Kenashi this morning, making visibility poor at the top and overcast conditions in the village. No new snow has fallen overnight. The snow depth has fallen 10cm down to 220cm up on Yamabiko and 5cm down to 160cm for Uenodaira. It is currently -1 degree in the village and -3 up the top where there is a light southwesterly of around 15 km/h.
Yesterday saw colder conditions which resulted in the melted surface of a few days ago freezing solid and becoming quite icy in places, especially up on Yamabiko. The one or two centimeters of snow that did fall just lightly dusted the hard packed base. Also, the sand that came with last week's snow storms is now giving the snow pack a distinct yellowish tinge. The lower slopes are showing signs of wear and tear with the ground getting very close to the surface in a few places.
Today and tomorrow are forecast to bring cloudy conditions but no real precipitation, except for some light snow on Saturday night. Sunday night should also bring some snow, with around 10cm forecast to fall by Monday afternoon. The freezing level will fall below the bottom lifts so it should snow in the village as well.
All lifts will operate except Mizunashi, Yunomine, Challenge and Utopia.
All courses are open except Kurokura and Hachiman.
After the fog cleared yesterday it ended up being a cloudy day snd this morning is much the same with a uniform grey sky and temperatures about where they were yesterday. No new snow to talk of this morning and doubtful that we will see any before the weekend which looks set to bring fair skies.
It is currently -5 degrees outside and feeling colder than yesterday.
Next snow - looking at the forecast at the moment, around Tuesday perhaps?
The following resort plans to be open for nighta tonight: Ichinose Family
Official resort snow depths as of 27th February 09:
More dusting last night, evening the depths out again. Heavier snow is expected this afternoon to make things even better, but sun is forecast all weekend. The crowds are sparse today, with the narrower resorts (Akakan, Kurohime) free for piste-hogs:)
Snowfalls continued through much of yesterday easing to snow showers late in the afternoon and overnight. This morning it cleared for a bit but more snow is on the way for today as a low pressure system moves through just to the north of the island. There's been drifting of up to 40cm on lee slopes up high and avalanche danger has increased a little but all gates should still open today. Snowfalls are expected to continue till mid next week. Today will be best early on as later it will get up to around freezing at village level and the snow will get a little heavy down low.
It was trying to snow a bit this morning but finding a snowflake on the ground right now is as easy as finding a 1 yen coin in a giant mammoth poo. There may be some snow at altitude but me thinks its not gonna be falling hard...forecast to begin sometime this morning and turn to light rain as it warms today but nothing solid so far. It was cold this morning and still is kind of but any precipitation that begins will be rain soon so its probably better it stays away.
We've had snow on the radar for the weekend but that seems to have either dropped anchor or changed course and we're looking at sunny / cloudy weather through the weekend...it could be worse.
