Snow and weather reports posted on Sunday 7th May 2017

The rain continues in the region this morning.
It actually eased off somewhat last night, but back falling from the skies early this morning. THe rain can't be doing the fresh-snow-less run at Kagura any favours of course, and the resort themselves are mentioning that conditions are less than perfect due to the rain. But, for that first slide maybe...
Doesn't feel particularly cold this morning and the thermometer is currently telling me +6 degrees.
The forecast is mixed over the next few days - clearer weather later tomorrow and Friday - though there's still not much snow to be seen.
Got to remember that it's still really very early of course and apart from Kagura resorts don't plan to be open until well into December, some later in the month. Dates below, to which we will soon add the dates for the resorts in neighbouring Minamiuonuma.
We all want it to snow now though. ;)
Resorts currently open:
Kagura: A 1500m run at the main Kagura area is open, access via Mitsumata Ropeway. The Kagura Number 1 quad servicing the open course weekdays.
Planned opening dates for resorts in Yuzawa Town:
Saturday 6th December: Kagura Tashiro Iwappara
Saturday 13th December: Naeba
Friday 19th December: Yuzawa Nakazato Yuzawa Kogen Yuzawa Park
The wet and rainy conditions continue in Hakuba this morning and it's about 6 degrees. Rain is forecast for the day, hopefully it will ease off tomorrow.
Through Sunday is forecast to get slightly warmer as well, so it looks like we are going to have to wait until next week for the chance of snow. I will of course keep you updated on that.
Ski resorts in the valley that plan to be open late November are all ready and waiting to go now, and plan to open as soon as there is enough snow.
In the meantime, people who are still having to sort out their situation brought on by the earthquake may well be pleased for more time before snow arrives.
There have been much fewer aftershocks since yesterday in the area. It's worth mentioning the road situation as the main roads into Hakuba from both Nagano City and Itoigawa to the north remain closed at the moment until they can make some repais. The normal approach from the south, Route 148, is open as normal and from the north the Prefectural Road 433 (Chikuni Hokujo line) detour is open to normal vehicles.
Planned opening dates :
Hakuba 47 - late November Hakuba Goryu - late November Happo-one - late November Tsugaike Kogen - late November Kashimayari Sports Village - early December Hakuba Sanosaka - mid December Hakuba Norikura Onsen - mid December Hakuba Cortina - Saturday 13th December Hakuba Iwatake Snow Field - Friday 19th December Read more ...

Lots of blue sky, some cloud
Well folks, it's another sunny morning here in the Niseko region.
Lovely views of Mt Yotei.
A cold morning with temperatures below zero, and a high of around +5 forecast for later in the village. Slightly warmer forecast tomorrow along with more sunny conditions.
What about the snow, you ask! Looking at the longer forecast, perhaps something to look forward to around Tuesday.
In the meantime, I think this weekend sightseeing and onsen are going to be the activities of choice.
Snow has pretty much gone from the lower slopes now, though it doesn't take long to change that of course.
I meant to mention at the time but last Saturday a special ceremony was held at .Base in Niseko Grand Hirafu for the resorts in Kutchan and prayers were offered for safety on the slopes this season. It's a tradition that is held every year and I guess at all resorts around Japan.
Planned opening dates for the different resort areas on the mountain:
Niseko Grand Hirafu - will open as soon as there's enough snow (has been hoping for a 29th November opening) Niseko Annupuri Kokusai - will open as soon as there's enough snow Niseko Village - Monday 1st December Niseko Hanazono - Saturday 6th December Read more ...
Nozawa Onsen Now!
Wednesday 26th November 2014, 8:34am
Been a bit wet the last day here, and we have more rain due for the day today as well. As I write this there is a lot of cloud around bit it's not actually raining just now.
We might get some clearer conditions into the weekend but it will likely warm up a bit further and there's little chance of any snow at least until early next week. More a mix of cloud, rain and sun at times.
It looks like things might start to get colder again with a chance of snow on later on Monday/Tuesday but we'll just have to see how things develop as we get nearer.
Nozawa Onsen was of course planning to open for the season on Saturday 29th November, but as you might have guessed that's not going to be possible. There'a
They have officially announced a new opening date target of Saturday 6th December.

Very cold overnight and -8 degrees this morning.
Great conditions on the courses open but still no immediate snow forecast.
Yoichi 2 A and B and Asari 1 A and B courses are open.
It hasn't been the best since my last report with some clear conditions and then rain since yesterday. It is still raining... very wet sleet/snow falling up in Kumanoyu area just now when I was up there. Kumanoyu is still part open though hardly anyone out there.
We felt the earthquake that was centered around the Hakuba and Otari region of north west Nagano on Saturday night, though it wasn't major here and there has been no damage at all. Thoughts to everyone over there affected by that act of nature.
So there's a chance of slight snowfall today in higher areas, but certainly nothing significant. From tomorrow there's more chance of sun than snow looking at the local forecast and then rain again around Monday. Snow soon after that? We can hope so.
As you may have heard, on Saturday night there was a strong earthquake in northern Nagano Prefecture, with areas to the west of where we are - Hakuba in particular - being shaken the most.
It was a shindo 4 on the Japanese scale here in Madarao. More than a tremor but nothing that caused any damage at all to the facilities here in Madarao Kogen. Everything has been checked and there's thankfully no damage to report. All remains on course of Madarao Kogen opening 19th December.
Not particularly winter like weather of late. The weekend saw some beatiful conditions, to be followed with rain yesterday and today as well. Not much snow around. We all know how quickly it can arrive when it gets going... but not yet.
Hopefully more winter-like weather patterns will return next week. And I'll be sure to give you an update! Read more ...
