Yuzawa Now!

Tuesday 25th November 2008, 8:41am
Weather conditions: Cloud, light rain
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Those rain clouds did move in yesterday and once again we saw some quite heavy rain in the afternoon and into the night. Up high, Kagura are reporting 10cm of new snow overnight while Mitsumata are claiming 5cm so people up there today will enjoy that topup. The snow down at town level though has for the most part now disappeared with the snow line now creeping back up the mountain. This is nothing unusual though as that first snowfall usually does melt away before the real winter weather patterns set in.

This morning it is still raining, though much lighter, and quite bright as well. There are breaks in the cloud and it looks like it could even clear up even though the forecast is for cloud.   Read more ...

Niseko Now!

Tuesday 25th November 2008, 10:03am
Weather conditions: Clear
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Only a few light snow showers yesterday that helped maintain the surface conditions but have added nothing to the snow depth. The clouds cleared last night and the temperature plummeted to -14 by early this morning. Today though is one of those very rare bluebird days we get in Niseko and the sun should manage to get the temps up back up to near freezing by the afternoon. Tomorrow is expected to be similar with another cold night turning into another bluebird day though the temps may get a couple of degrees warmer.

Rain still expected on Thursday but less said about that the better...    Read more ...

Naeba Now!

Weather conditions: Cloud
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Rain/sleet in the village but 10cm of snow at Kagura and 5cm of snow at Mitsumata overnight. This morning there is still a lot of cloud hanging on but the rain has stopped and things seem to be clearing up.   Read more ...

Nozawa Onsen Now!

Tuesday 25th November 2008, 10:32am
Weather conditions: Cloudy
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Snow on the top of the mountain last night with the resort reporting 30cm of fresh snow up on Yamabiko and 25cm on Uenotaira taking the snow depth up at Yamabiko to 50cm..... but the resort isn't opening up quite yet. Still no word on when the lifts will start moving, but the guess would be after the next snowfall. I hope I am right!

Low cloud around the village this morning so it's difficult to see up to the mountain but it is a relatively mild start to the day down here with the thermometer at +3 right now. Lots of the snow in the village area has now disappeared so we stay patiently waiting for the next snow. Unfortunately it is still looking likely that this week will be fairly mild so we might have to wait until the weekend for those temperatures to drop once again.   Read more ...

Furano Now!

Weather conditions: Clear, sunny, COLD.

Cold in Furano

Brrrrrrr, is it cold today!

No new snow today, but I'll guarantee you that nothing has melted overnight. The official low temp was -14 C, but my car thermometer showed -16 C at 8:00 AM. Who you gonna believe? I'll go with my car.

It's clear and sunny, and the snow is nice and crunchy.

Unbelievably, it's expected to warm up to 0 C tomorrow, and 6 C the day after, but still cold at night, so I'm not too concerned about the snow base.

Shiga Kogen Now!

Weather conditions: Cloud
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Similar conditions this morning. There was another 5cm or so of snow overnight on the slopes, but this morning the snow clouds had moved on and right now it is just cloudy and a chilly -2 degrees.

Kumanoyu remains the only resort part open, but today there is news of other resorts that plan to open up in the coming days:

On Thursday, Ichinose Family plan to have No 2 pair lift moving.

On Friday (28th), Mammoth will be starting operating No 3 pair lift.

Yakebitaiyama is reporting 50cm of snow currently and they are planning to start running No 4 Romance lift on Saturday 29th November.   Read more ...
