Clear skies, some clouds expected later
It is a warm and sunny weekend day here at Kiroro. Yesterdays bad weather has passed through and we now have sunshine, moderate winds and temperatures just above freezing.
Weather permitting Kiroro Resort plans to remain on spring operations until the end of Golden Week (May 6th). If the snow holds out the resort will open for weekend operations after then, watch this space for more updates. Read more ...

Warmed up again yesterday. And it'll be another warm one today, though the forecasts still say it won't be quite as warm.
Back to around 20 degrees tomorrow though.
Not much else on the forecast other than sun, sun and more sun for the week ahead. Varying levels of haziness probably - and today has started off pretty hazy here at town level. Typical for around this time along with a steady increase in temperatures. I remember sometimes over Golden Week feeling 'hot' rather than warm...
So today Kagura and GALA Yuzawa are of course open, and joined once again by weekend-only Naeba.
Oh yes, I forgot to mention - many of the cherry blossoms are looking good at the moment.
Official snow depths: ** General opening plans - any unplanned closures will be mentioned in the above report **
GALA Yuzawa: Official snow depth of 180cm. The Central Area and most of the North Area. The South Area is now closed. The downhill course is also now closed - get down back to base using the Gondola.
Kagura: Official snow depth of 310cm. All three main areas of Kagura remain pretty much fully open.
Planned closing dates for resorts in the Yuzawa and Minamiuonuma region Information as currently available and of course subject to change depending on conditions. Resorts not mentioned below are now closed.
Open until Wednesday May 6th:
- Naeba (*closed on weekdays, open ONLY on weekends and holidays [except April 29th]) - GALA Yuzawa - Kagura (Tashiro)
It should be a fine, warm and sunny spring weekend here - with similar fine and settled weather set to continue through into next week as well.
With it being the weekend of course, earlier on they were busy winding up the Hirafu Gondola and it started on it's long journey for the day at 8:30am. All of the other lifts that are scheduled to be up and running this morning appear to be starting as planned.
I know that most of you reading this are not actually up here in Niseko at the moment, so I wish you a fun weekend wherever you are in the world.
If you are here, hope you enjoy it. It's not long now before it's all over for the season. Just another 11 days left after today.
Planned resort operations for the rest of the season - weather conditions may mean changes on any given day, but these are the plans!
Niseko Grand Hirafu: - Ace Quad Number 2 Center four - until May 6 - King Triple Lift Number 3 - until May 6 - King Number 4 - until May 6 - Hirafu Gondola (** ONLY ON SATURDAYS, SUNDAYS and HOLIDAYS) - until May 6 - Spring Park plans to be open until May 6
Niseko Annupuri: - Annupuri Gondola - until May 6 - Jumbo Number 1 quad - until May 6 - Jumbo Number 4 pair - until May 6
Niseko Village: Niseko Village is currently closed but plans to re-open for the Golden Week holidays - from April 29th until May 6th
More sun today and it's going to be another typically warm and hazy spring day here.
I think that's pretty much what I'm going to be saying for the next week or so actually as the forecast shows us very stable weather conditions. Once there's no new snow forecast we might as well have sun and fine weather to enjoy the last few days of the season.
From today, in addition to the Nagasaka Gondola and Yamabiko quads, the Uenotaira and Paradise lifts will also be operating daily right through until the last day of the season on Wednesday 6th May - please see the full updated lift details below.
Official snow depths:
Yamabiko - 210cm Uenotaira - 110cm
Lifts that remain open and plans for the rest of the season (planned)
Operating daily until Wednesday 6th May:
- Nagasaka Gondola - Yamabiko Number 2 Four lift - Yamabiko Four Lift - Uenotaira Four lift - Paradise Four lift
Saturday 25th April until Sunday 26th April; Saturday 2nd May until Wednesday 6th May:
- Skyline connecting pair lift
Courses that remain open until May 6th (planned)
Yamabiko A Yamabiko B Yamabiko C Yamabiko D Yamabiko E Kokenashi Bunabayashi (down to mid-way Gondola Station) Uenotaira Paradise Rinkan (down to base)
The Nagasaka link connecting course is now not open, so if you are using the lower Rinkan course down to base you will need to get a shuttle bus back from that area to the Nagasaka Gondola and car parks.
Yesterday felt really, really warm. Probably because it was! The sun was out and it remained bright and sunny even as more cloud appeared as the day went on.
It's a more subdued kind of bright this morning. There's more cloud around this morning but it is still sunny and fine weather is forecast.
Temperatures are set to get warmer still over the coming week with mostly fine similar weather conditions forecast.
Lots of folk surprisingly still in their winter gear, though I'm not sure all those layers are needed now... I certainly have switched to more spring-like gear, not keen on being too hot out there myself. It was fairly chilly earlier this morning but will quickly once again warm up.
Have a great weekend.
