The sun is out again this morning and clear skies all round. Not quite as blue as yesterday, a lighter shade.
But it's already warming up and later on this afternoon we can expect temps to rise to 20 degrees and perhaps even a little higher. And almost exactly the same is forecast for tomorrow as well. So come prepared with sunscreen, shades or even something to cover your face up with... there's been some burn out there.
Around Tuesday, maybe a little earlier, rain is expected. Until then, sunny skies and it should be a fine weekend.
Current planned resort operations:
26th-29th April and 3rd-6th May only: Naeba
Daily until 6th May: GALA Yuzawa (Central and North Areas) Kagura (Tashiro area)
Daily until 25th May: Kagura (Mitsumata and main Kagura area)
All other resorts in the region are now closed for the season.
Official resort snow depths @ Wednesday 23rd April 2014, AM: Kagura (Tashiro): 240cm Kagura (Mitsumata): 290cm Gala Yuzawa: 180cm
Good morning from Niseko, and it's another fine and sunny morning as expected... cold overnight but it's into double digits already this morning as of 9am. It should be a warm day. Same tomorrow with this warming trend continuing. 20 degrees anyone?
Snowfall seems something of a distant memory now at this stage.
There's a moderate wind this morning but the lifts that plan to be open seem to be operating.
Hirafu Gondola plans to be open tomorrow and Sunday and then Tuesday... basically the 'holidays' over the Golden Week period.

Good morning from a sunny Hakuba.
It's perhaps a bit more hazy than it was this time yesterday, but yes it's another morning of sun and warm temperatures after another early morning chill. Those flowers are all going to spring into life soon, I can just tell.
Back to skiing and snowboarding (!), it looks like we are in for a weekend of fine, sunny and warm conditions.
Once we get into next week rain is expected.
Have a good weekend. Remember to protect yourself against the sun.
Official snow depth numbers and operations at resorts remaining open (as of 25th April 2014):

The sun is out once again above Nozawa this morning and it's basically another lovely warm spring morning; and we're expecting similar for tomorrow and Sunday as well. Clouds might move in on Monday to be followed by some rain.
Even though only Tuesday next week is a holiday (followed by the Monday and Tuesday of the next week), tomorrow is officially the start of the Golden Week period. Presumably some lucky people are going to have longer off work!

Things have really warmed up over the last few days (up to 20 degrees!) and all of a sudden large areas of ground have become visible as the snow melts away from lower areas in particular.
More sun this morning and we will probably enjoy fine and warm weather conditions through the weekend.
The Zao Echoline road opens from 11am today. Always fun to drive up there while there's still big walls of snow on either side of the road. It seems that until some time in early May they will be closing the road from 5pm until 8am the next morning but during the day time it's open to enjoy. Or will be later this morning!
Operating ski lifts at Zao (* subject to change):
Daily until 6th May: Ropeways and Gondolas (open through the year) Chuo Number 1 Pair Utopia Number 2 Pair
Open only from 26th April until 6th May: Chuo Number 2 Pair Katakai Triple Paradise Pair AB
Official snow depths (25th April 14): Utopia: 140cm Chuo: 130cm Paradise: 140cm Uwanodai: 20cm
Here's some news about the Ropeways after the skijo closes. They are open 'throughout the year' but actually do close for periods of time for maintenance work. And here's the plans for them:
Lower section & Utopia Number 1 summer lift: Closed from Wednesday 7th May until Wednesday 4th June (* but will open on 24th and 25th May)
Upper section: Closed from Wednesday 7th May until Thursday 19th June (* but will open on 14th, 15th and 16th June)
Zao Chuo Ropeway
Closed from Wednesday 7th May until Friday 13th June
Zao Sky Cable
Closed from Saturday 14th June
I'll post the above information again on the last report of the season as a reminder. Read more ...
Shiga Kogen Now!
Friday 25th April 2014, 10:03am
The rain earlier in the week soon cleared and we have enjoyed some fine and clear conditions the last few days. We should have similar over the weekend.
As I write this, the first cars should be driving through the Route 292 road connecting Shiga Kogen with Kusatsu in Gunma Prefecture. It opens at 10am this morning. This road is of course closed during the winter months. Apparently, in some places the snow walls on the side of the road are 8m high. A sight to see for sure. Of course this road now open means that you can now get to Shiga Kogen from the Gunma side.
More lifts opening up again tomorrow for the Golden Week holidays, details as they are posted below.
Have a good weekend.
Tannenomori: Number 8 quad lift - 26th April until 6th May
Ichinose Diamond: Diamond quad lift - 26th April until 6th May.
Ichinose Family: Ichinose Number 2 Pair B - until 6th May Ichinose quad - until 6th May

Kumanoyu: Number 3 quad - 26th April until 6th May Number 2 pair - 26th April until 6th May Number 1 pair - until 6th May
Yokoteyama: As long as there's snow - probably beyond Golden Week
It will be a warm one today with temperatures going up to mid teens and perhaps beyond. Definitely time to drop the down jacket, layer down and feel the fresh spring breeze while cruising down the mountain.
The weather is perfect with full sunshine and slopes have been nicely groomed.
