Cloudy and snowy
It is an early report this morning mainly due to some technical work that needs to be done today... which means that some of the other reports may be delayed today.
Anyway, back to this morning and it's pretty good news - 10cm of snow on the car outside and it is snowing still. Pretty decent snow too and coming down quite heavily at times... almost feels like winter again! Too early to hear any numbers from resorts but hopefully that and a bit more.
The forecast is for continued snowfall today and maybe into tomorrow morning, so hopefully we'll get some more.
Hello and good morning from Niseko. Apologies for the early report as the site folks need to do some kind of work and it's either early or late... but I wanted to let you know about the fresh snow.
Yes, some fresh this morning. Just over 5cm outside my place so hopefully, as almost always, more higher up.
Guess what, some wind too. Wind affected us yesterday and looks likely to today as well though it is too early for any specific news as I write this. Expect at least the upper lifts to be affected.
Snowfall forecast for today and maybe through into tomorrow morning. After that, back to spring come Thursday.
For this morning though I think I'll just have to go check out conditions!
Niseko Avalanche Report
Niseko base 6am: -5C, 5cm snowfall. Moiwa peak: NE8m/s, -5C, 10cm snowfall with notable development of snowdrifts. Annupuri 1000m snowpack 340cm. Hirafu 1000m: NE10m/s with development of snowdrifts. Annupuri peak: N12m/s, -8℃. Coastal data: Benkei cape NE16m/s, Kamui cape ENE8m/s, 1003hPa, 3.5m waves.
Cold air is flowing in as the low-pressure system passes. A northerly wind with snowfall is making snowdrifts develop. Surface slab avalanche of 30cm or less is likely to occur in open steep slopes and knolls. According to observations and snowfall transition, avalanche hazard (including climax slides) is high. Peak gates will be closed. New snow is still shallow and is not covering old tracks. Bumpy conditions around the course; be careful. Sunlight is weak and the snow surface is hard to ready. Beware of falls, collisions, falling into cracks and creek holes. All surrounding peaks are in a similar condition and the risk will rise in higher elevations. Carefully choose your touring route in steep slopes above 1000m. Winter is back for a short time. Have a nice day.
Today we actually have a decent amount to report, 8cm! Its no mid winter dump but pretty good for spring. Feels like nice light powder too so should be nice to throw around a few turns.
Good news is its still snowing too and supposed to remain doing so for the majority of today and tonight, so with any luck we will be waking up to even more tomorrow.
Conditions underneath that fresh layer are mostly packed so once a few turns have been thrown it will probably quickly thin out and become varied so make sure you get out there first to get the best snow.
We have light winds around the base getting slightly stronger up at the peaks but at this stage all lifts are scheduled to open.
It's just a quick early report this morning from Hakuba.
More snow on the ground this morning with Cortina reporting 10-20cm and Hakuba 47 just a few cm at base and up to 10cm on the mountain.
So there should be fresh out there with snow forecast for the day today and overnight, clearing up tomorrow.
We'll probably be back to sunny skies by the weekend. Read more ...
Nozawa Onsen Now!
Tuesday 24th March 2015, 8:14am
It's snowing folks!
Snowfall during the day yesterday with 5+cm across the mountain and some more on top of that overnight. Cold too with the top Yamabiko area reporting a temperature of -8 degrees. Put those extra layers back on!
Snow continues to fall now so let's hope we can get more cm before it eases off as we enter tomorrow. It looks like once this has passed, we can expect spring conditions to return fairly quickly and into next week.
But this morning is a good chance to get that feel of fresh once again.
From next Monday, lift tickets at Nozawa get cheaper for the remaining chunk of the season (until 6th May). For example a one day ticket for an adult will be reduced from 4800 yen to 3700 yen, and for a child from 2200 yen to 1700 yen.

Cloud, blue sky, snow
A funny old mix of light snow and some patches of blue sky as I sit here writing this report, but most importantly up to 10cm of fresh since yesterday.
It's good and cold as well, reminding us of winter.
With the snow clouds expected to be with us - or nearby - until early tomorrow morning, today and tomorrow might be the last chance of the season here at Madarao Kogen to get that 'fresh' fix.
Hope you can get to do that.
Lifts planned to be open:
Number 1 lift Number 2 quad lift Number 3A Number 5 Super quad lift Number 11 lift Number 12 lift Number 13 lift Number 15 lift Moving Walkway Kids Park Freeride Park
Good morning everyone, the weather has turned on its head totally with up to 10cms of fresh snow fallen this morning already and only supposed to get heavier as the day continues.
Temperatures are currently -3 degrees with relatively strong gusts of winds which are currently not causing any problems with lift operations here at Naeba. The Takenokoyama romance lift is closed due to avalanche danger and poor visibility, both the men’s and women’s down hill courses are also closed due to poor snow condition.
The Dragondola over to Tashiro is closed with the wind affecting things at Kagura as well this morning - Mitsumata Ropeway to the Kagura Romance Number 1 lift open at the moment.
Official snow depths:
Naeba: 260cm Kagura: 370cm
10cm Naeba dusting Kagura
This Naeba Now report started updating for the 2014/2015 season on 31st January 2015. As such, the 'observed snowfall season' numbers shown at the bottom of the report will only reflect data from that date onwards. The snow stepped up a notch overnight and 25cm has accumulated up top, 15cm at the base and its falling heavily here right now.
Strong winds late last night have dropped right off and the snow that has accumulated is virtually unaffected.
The cat track at Tenjin is still under inspection but the top of the resort is open as is the gondola. Late afternoon should be red hot today and the intensity of the snow is set to pick up even more this evening before calming tomorrow.
Some very good riding on offer if you can swing a day off work.
Planned closing dates of ski resorts in Minakami (subject to change):
Until 29th March Norn Minamaki Okutone Snow Park White Valley
Until 30th March Minakami Kogen
Until 5th April Minakami Kogen Ski Resort Minakami Hodaigi
Snow kept on falling overnight here, although the total from yesterday is only about 15cm (so 10 on top of yesterday's 5 or so). Snow showers continue to fall, although we're getting occasional moments of sun as well. Nice now, but not enough to fire up the mighty snowthrower (as much repair as those things require—good to use sparingly. And it will be time to dig out the north side of the house soon enough). The mailman can deal with 15cm of snow....
