Myoko Now!

Friday 23rd November 2007, 6:50am
Weather conditions: Heavy snow
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Last night blizzard conditions brought in another 80cm of November powder up on the mountain. The dream ends today, though, as temperatures rise rapidly and the sun comes back on the scene. All Myoko area resorts are set to open on December 15th.

A nice deep primer has set the stage for some good sliding this year.   Read more ...

Niseko Now!

Weather conditions: Partly cloudy
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Opening day! What a way to open the season for 07-08! 30cm of fresh light snow on the ground at the base of the mountain. The big low of the past few days has drifted north and the skies are clearing for a perfect morning. Temperatures are comfortable and wind is light. No major systems are sitting off Hokkaido now so the next few days should be very good to get out and enjoy the mountain.

---

1pm update... it stopped snowing early this morning and lifts opened at 8.30am. Ace 3 lift only operating for skiing today accessible by the Ace#2 Center 4 Quad chair. Excellent snow conditions, however it's forbidden to ski down below top of Centre 4 lift and downloading only is possible from this point. This has not prevented a small number of audacious skiers and boarders from ducking the ropes and skiing down the Supercourse and Gondola runs as the tracks testify. Need to remember it is still early days and we are restricted to the Ace Pair Lift #3 for the next few days until more snow falls.

Those who decide to ski down at this time are risking their season by the possibility of hitting submersible objects in the shallow snowpack. Given that, its still a fantastic start to the season with the potential for more of the mountain to open up early next week.

This morning there was a ceremony of traditional drumming (Taiko)and our famous mascot Jagatakun even made an appearance at Seicomart to celebrate the new season.

Last night Grand Hirafu held their annual season opening party at the Alpen hotel which was well attended by locals. There is an exciting air of anticipation in the village as season 2007/8 shapes up to be one of the biggest ever.    Read more ...

Yuzawa Now!

Friday 23rd November 2007, 10:55am
Weather conditions: Cloud
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
This morning keen skiers and snowboarders were waiting for that first Mitsumata Ropeway ride of the season and first turns on the snow up there. This is one of the earliest proper openings of recent years and is a good start to the season... we'll be hearing more on conditions later on and will post them here.

Naeba has also expanded operations and are now operating the Number 4 Romance Lift, the Prince No 2 Gondola and one of the Romance lifts up top meaning that a much bigger area is now open in front of the hotel as well as a run up top and the run coming down the mountain.

Not a whole lot of new snow this morning. We have snowmen on the forecast, but it is not actually snowing right now. It is looking likely that things will warm up a bit tomorrow and more early next week with temperatures of up to 18 degrees forecast for Monday in parts of Niigata - surely less than that in Yuzawa, but probably double figures.   Read more ...

Shiga Kogen Now!

Friday 23rd November 2007, 11:02am
Weather conditions: Cloud, light snow at times
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Some more snow yesterday as the winter-like conditions continue bringing us a good start to the season. Not much to report this morning though it was once again a very cold night and early morning and probably won't warm up much today with a chance of more snow. A warmer period will be with us early next week.

At the moment here is what resort areas are open with lifts moving:

Kumanoyu:
Number 2, Number 3 quad lift

Mammoth:
Number 2 pair lift

Yokoteyama/Shibutoge:
Yokoteyama Number 1, 2 Sky lift

Nishitateyama:
Nishitate Number 2 Triple lift

Ichinose Family plans to open it's Number 2 pair lift this coming Sunday.

Planning to open on 1st December:

Yakebitaiyama:
Number 2 Gondola, Number 4 Romance lift

Okushiga Kogen:
Number 2, 3 high speed pair lift

Of course all of these are subject to change depending on the weather & conditions.

Naeba Now!

Friday 23rd November 2007, 11:06am
Weather conditions: Cloud, light snow
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Naeba has opened a few more lifts today - the No 2 Gondola is now taking people up top where a pair lift is also now operating and you are able to ski or snowboard down to the hotel area as well. They have also opened up a wider area in front of the hotel.

The Mitsumata Ropeway also opened earlier this morning for the first time this season and most of the Kagura-Mitsumata area is now open with (apparently) some very good conditions... especially considering we are in November. More on that as we get it. Kagura is still reporting 130cm or snow with Mitsumata on 100cm.   Read more ...

Nozawa Onsen Now!

Friday 23rd November 2007, 11:12am
Weather conditions: Cloud, snow
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
More snow yesterday making a lot of people happy in the village as they prepare for the resort opening on 1st December.... wish it were sooner! There is now 130cm of snow up on the Yamabiko gelende and 30cm on the lower slopes, so we are thinking of a petition to get those lifts moving before then! It is snowing lightly at the moment and we do have snow lined up for the rest of the day on the forecast, but it doesn't look like making much difference in the village as it is - perhaps more freshies on the top runs.

1st December can't come soon enough!   Read more ...

Hakuba Now!

Friday 23rd November 2007, 11:29am
Weather conditions: Cloudy and partially obscured atop upper slopes. Clear with sunny patches at mid-mountain and down in the valley.
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
One incredible first day here on Happo-One Ski Resort today with freshies to be found all over the place. Alpen Lift and the 2 Panorama Lifts were open today with uploading from the Gondola.

Boot high powder on all open runs and groomed terrain on the run between Panorama Lifts.

Current base is at the 100cm mark, and the strong winds of last night filled in all the gullies and deposited plenty of snow on the upper slopes.

This writer can't remember ski conditions this great for this early in the season.

Tenjindaira opens today after having recived around 1.4m of snow during the week which has settled down to a 90cm base. At present there is only 1 lift and the ropeway operating.

Furano Now!

Friday 23rd November 2007, 18:12pm
Weather conditions: cloudy skies. snow has stopped.
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Opening day of the season today.

Furano always opens the last weekend in November. Constant snowfall over the past week has seen Furano transformed from an autumn farming town, into an instant white wonderland of fresh snow.

Snow showers are expected to clear over the weekend, followed by a return of snow storms early next week.

Customers on the mountain today were treated to fresh snow on the 2 open runs off the Furano Area Ropeway. Fresh powder snow for opening day was a pure delight.

New Lift Ticket Prices:

New hourly lift tickets have been released: 2hr, 3hr and 4hr tickets. These tickets will replace morning and afternoon lift tickets.

Season lift tickets have also been released and this year are valid until May 6th 2008, compared to March 28th last season which was frustrating for many season pass holders.   Read more ...
