The temperature is just below freezing in the village so expect a frosty hard base directly under the dusting of 3cm of new snow. Cloudy but looks like it is clearing up
Hello and good morning from Yuzawa.
It's really nice to see a layer of snow on the ground and on top of the car this morning... around 3-5cm around town areas, with more on the slopes as you go higher.
Here is what resorts are reporting:
Kagura (Kagura Area and Mitsumata Area) - 10cm Kagura (Tashiro) - 20cm Maiko Snow Resort - 10-15cm
There's a lot of cloud around still, but things look like they might be clearing up and the sun is starting to show through.
So it should be a good early morning with that fresh snow to play in. Still a chance of more snow tonight and tomorrow as well according to the forecasts.
Things should clear up for the weekend with fine weather currently forecast.
Official snow depth information as of Thursday 23rd March 2017
Some numbers not updated for today at the time of this report
Planned 'Nighta' operations (floodlit night skiing)
** Subject to change due to snow and weather conditions
Kandatsu Kogen 'Hobo All Night' ('Almost All Night' from 6pm-4am) is on Fridays, Saturdays and nights before holidays until 1st April 2017. Spring nighta (6pm-10pm) on Saturdays and nighta before holidays from 7th April until 22nd April
The small low pressure system is still hanging around with strong winds at higher elevations and snow fall mixed with graupel. Above 800m elevation wind is over 10m/s and snow drift growth on leeward slopes and knolls has been up to 50cm. From observation, avalanche conditions are unstable. All gates are expected to be open dependent on lift operations.
The mountain has returned to winter conditions. Kozen no sawa sidewall, Osawa cornice face around 1000m and Higashi One cornice slope, the avalanche risk is high due to snowdrift growth over the last day. Avoid riding these areas. In south facing strictly off limits areas surface slab avalanches will easily occur, fracturing on Mar 21 layer. Never enter these areas.
Below 800m the snow in the trees is reset, but you are still hitting the bottom. Be careful loosing control and hitting obstacles. Pay attention to holes and cracks covered with new snow. This information is issued to prevent accidents out of bounds. Have a safe day. .

Overcast but signs of the sun
Morning from Madarao.
A kind of overcast feel to the start of the day here. Snow overnight has stopped (not much on the ground) and we're in that overcast mode. Looks like the sun might be trying to break through.
There's still some snowfall here and there on the forecast in the coming week, so we might get more still. Would be great if we could get regular refreshes right up until the end of the season.
Madarao Kogen plans to be open until Sunday 2nd April. 11 days to go!

With all the snow that has dropped from the sky over the past two days its set to be a big one at Tenjin today. The mountain is scheduled to open at 10am, the base is now only 30cm shy of 5m, we have more snow forecast for tonight and throughout Friday, clear weather Saturday before a big dump on Sunday and Monday... After barely seeing sun this whole month I am officially dubbing this the best March I've ever seen!

Fine weather yesterday for lots of the day with more cloud moving in during the afternoon but as is so often the case they added to the drama of the scenery.
Resorts around the valley are this morning reporting between 1cm and 5cm of fresh snowfall on mountain, so it sounds like there is another modest layer to play in early on.
A bit of wind is being reported by 47, so may feel cold up there but it looks like all resorts are open as planned.
Hakuba Iwatake and Sanosaka only have 4 more days left this season (wow!), with Kashimayari and Hakuba Norikura open for another week beyond that, until 2nd April. The other 'big four' will be planning on continuing into Golden Week in early May (more on that later).

Good morning from a snowy Grandeco.
We didn't expect any new snow fall this morning but when I got up, things had changed into "white world" again.
8cm of fresh snow on the ground at base and all courses have a nice new covering. The snow on the tree branches are so beautiful today. Ah, don't you just love winter and snow. It's sad in many ways when spring takes hold!
Anyway, visibility is not so good this morning because of the snowfall and there's some fog, but it will be a nice day to enjoy the upper courses and tree runs.
Very quiet ski ground today because of a few skiers, it is like your own private ski ground.
Snow Park Information:
[Dekodaira E park] 2 way 10m kicker, 7m table top and 10m kicker.
Very poor visibility out there this morning. I'm not sure I'd be able to find my way around... hopefully it will improve as the day goes on.
Light snow at times on the forecast into tomorrow though the forecasts generally seem to be expecting clearer weather conditions over the coming weekend.
Closed for the season: - Paradise Number 3 pair - Diamond Number 1 pair - Zao Kokutai pair - Ryuzen pair - Karamatsu pair
Closed for the season: - Kotan

Nozawa Onsen Now!
Thursday 23rd March 2017, 9:00am
Overcast kind of cloudy
Good morning from Nozawa.
I am writing my report this morning from.... Tokyo, so I'm going on what I have been told on the phone and what the official website is saying this morning. Please keep that in mind!
Looks like there's quite a lot of thin cloud around this morning and an overcast kind of start to the day. The resort was reporting a temperature of -5C on Yamabiko as of 7:15am and... actually, they haven't updated the info for the lower areas yet. I can't confidently put in the new snowfall reported by the resort this morning either as I don't have what they reported yesterday. Oh dear, perhaps I should avoid a report all together this morning! Many apologies. If anyone reading this wants to fill me in, please do contact and we'll happily update!
The forecast says there might be a bit more snow overnight tonight.
I'll be back to Nozawa tomorrow with a proper first-hand report.
Nozawa Onsen plans to be open daily until Sunday 7th May
Remaining nighta: one more time - on Saturday 25th March
Lifts operations: - All lifts operating except: - Yunomine pair (usually closed on weekdays) - Mizunashi triple (usually closed on weekdays) - Challenge pair (usually closed on weekdays) - Utopia pair (usually closed on weekdays)

Actually clear, with thin cloud cover
It's sunny with a little cover of fresh, which we will very generously call 1cm. Could be more up high, as Suginohara added 5cm to their total. Snow stays on the forecast as well. That's not always great this time of year, as I found out yesterday. Fresh this time of year can be pretty sticky, definitely heavy and doesn't make for fast, smooth skiing. The good thing is that we haven't had a lot of either wind or rain, so the snowpack is holding on strong. Good news for spring skiing as the pack does settle and the warm winds blow. Just not this week.
