Light snow, cloud
Lets forget the wet of yesterday and concentrate on the fact that some snow is falling high up at the moment. Nothing that will bring us much in terms of cm but certainly better than wet. It will likely clear up though and we have cloud on the forecast for the day... may even get to see a bit of sun from time to time. Maybe more light snow tomorrow but clearer conditions forecast for Thursday.
Early on up at the top of Kagura it is -3 degrees, and -1 at base in Naeba. Not much of a wind at all just a very slight breeze.
Operations at Naeba and Kagura will be as follows:
Wow - powder day! There has been 15cm of fresh snow at village level and even more on the mountain itself. The temperatures have cooled down as well, and look set to stay below zero for the remainder of the week. It is currently snowing and visibility is a little restricted because of this. Get out there and enjoy a great late season powder day.
Kitanomine Zone will close on March 27. Night skiing has now finished on both sides of the mountain. Read more ...

Mostly cloudy with snow showers with occassional breaks with sunshine
We've had around 10cm of snow at the base with a little more up top. Fairly strong winds have also caused a reasonable amount of drifting around the higher slopes of the mountain. Currently there are still a few snow showers persisting but these should clear later in the day. More snow is expected though overnight again and should continue for the remainder of the week. Conditions won't exactly be bottomless up there today but it's nice to have a little fresh snow to soften the surface. Currently top lifts at Annupuri are on wind hold but most lifts elsewhere are running. The King #4 single chair is running allowing access to the peak. It hasn't been open for a couple of days so there should be some half reasonable snow to be found on some of the lee slopes. Rug up though as the wind is still strong around the peak and windchills will not make it overly pleasant at the top.
Current Official Snow Depths:
Grand Hirafu: Top - 400 Bottom - 200
Niseko Village: Top - 390 Bottom - 190
Annupuri: Top - 400 Bottom - 190
Peak gates 2 & 3 are scheduled to open at 9:30, please follow the ski patrol’s instructions. 10cm of overnight snowfall. The wind above 1100m elevation has stagnated around 15m/s w to NW. Annupuri peak 6am: -11.9℃, WNW12m/s. Some thick snowdrifts have developed in leeward steep slopes and have accumulated on top of a hard/crusty surface in some slope conditions. Beware of shallow surface slab avalanches in slopes exceeding 30°. Many big cracks should have had formed by this time during normal seasons, however not many can be observed this year. It may just be delayed because of irregular snowfall process of this season, however we aren’t sure of why this is happening. In any case, irregular events may be likely to happen when the environmental conditions are irregular. Be conscious and be careful. Please refer to the full depth avalanches photos and past occurrence location maps at the gates and stay away from potentially hazardous slopes. Full depth avalanches are almost impossible to predict.
After the wet conditions of yesterday today, this morning is just cloudy with the lower half of the mountains on view with clouds shrouding upper areas. There are touches of blue sky on view here and there and it's fairly bright down in the village. Goryu was reporting 1cm of fresh snow and snowfall higher up at other resorts as well earlier on. Right now it is around +4 degrees at village.
Similar conditions seem to be forecast for tomorrow though it should get colder.
Today we are back to normal weekdays and with that a few small changes in resort operations, with notes added below.
Official snow depths and operations @ Tuesday 22nd March AM:
Hakuba Goryu 1cm of fresh snow on Tuesday morning. Toomi No 2 lift will be closed on weekdays. Alps No2 and No4 lifts are closed. No nighta. Alps daira - 295cm; Toomi - 130cm; Iimori - 100cm.

The rain has stopped thankfully and today after a morning that brought with it some light snowing on the mountainsides, it is just cloudy in Yuzawa at the moment with a temperature high later on of around 7 degrees forecast. It is 5 degrees now.
Resorts in the area have all been deciding on what to do regards to their lifts now that we are into normal weekdays again and below is a round-up of the status of resorts. The ones that are open are doing so on a limited basis in an effort to not use up too much energy.
Resorts that are part open: - Naeba - Kagura (Mitsumata) - Yuzawa Park - Iwappara - Kandatsu Kogen - Ipponsugi - Centleisure Maiko (open until Sunday 27th) - Joetsu Kokusai
Resorts that are closed, but plan/hope to re-open: - NASPA Ski Garden (plans to re-open Saturday) - Gala Yuzawa (no specific date)
Resorts that are now closed for the season: - Tashiro - Yuzawa Nakazato - Ludens Yuzawa - Yuzawa Kogen - Nunoba - Ishiuchi Maruyama
A bit of new snow to start the day off in Shiga Kogen this morning.... 5cm or so I would say in places. Fairly wet and heavy, but snow all the same! And certainly better than rain! It was snowing as the resorts opened this morning but now just cloudy and about 2 degrees in the central Maruike area of Shiga Kogen.
More snow is due tonight and perhaps into tomorrow morning with clearer weather and an appearance by the sun likely on Thursday.
Things remain very quiet and resorts not operating all lifts. Please see the post I made yesterday regarding lift operations at the different resort areas in Shiga Kogen.
Official resort snow depths as of 22nd March 2011 AM:
It was a day of sun and fog, a little snow in the early morning and more now in the evening. Sorry to be late filing the report, but the lack of people on the slopes kind of lowers the motivation. It was a great day in the backcountry, too, with some soft, real spring snow, and the promise of more fresh ahead.
Several areas are now closed for the season; some weekday closings as well, although many areas plan to stay open for some time now. There's lots of snow, so that should be no problem. Just need skiers on the slopes!
Ski Resort Operations
Akakura Onsen: Kumado No. 3; Chuo Triple; Yodel Super Quad. Night skiing finished for the year.
Akakan (Akakura Kanko): Sky Cable gondola, Hotel No. 3, 5; Champion side closed.

Myoko Suginohara: Closed from 3/22 to 3/25; gondola only on 3/26, 27.
Seki Onsen: Closed today; considering its weekday operations, but plans to stay open until May 8.
Myoko Ski Park: Closed for the season.
