Yuzawa Now!

Weather conditions: Cloud

The winds have calmed down today and it is a rather cool one with cloud but some sky on view. Up at Kagura it looks like it is right down to almost no visibility covered in cloud/fog. The resorts are back open today with the Ropeway and 6 pair lifts open at Tashiro, the Ropeway a quad and pair at Mitsumata, and the Gondola, quad and 2 pairs up at Kagura. The three 'weekday' lifts are going at Naeba too.

Gala and Naeba were reporting light rain this morning but right now I think it is just cloudy in all regions. There is even a chance - according to some reports - of some snow up top overnight.... we shall see.

Down below though very probably more rain and then cloud tomorrow before better weather on Friday.

Official resort snow depths @ 22nd Apr 09, AM:
Mt Naeba:
90cm
Kagura Tashiro:
180cm
Kagura (Mitsumata):
210cm
GALA Yuzawa:
60cm   Read more ...

Weather conditions: Cloud

Resorts back open for weekday operations today after those thumping winds of yesterday. Visibility is low at the top as the mountain is covered in thick cloud. There is even talk of the chance of snow tonight on the top there. That would be nice.

The weather should clear up though later on tomorrow and better weather currently lined up for Friday.   Read more ...

Nozawa Onsen Now!

Wednesday 22nd April 2009, 15:52pm
Weather conditions: Cloud
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
After a very blustery day yesterday things are back to something like spring mid-week normal now. Uenotaira seems to have taken a real hit with just officially 10cm left there, so the season is now left to be just the top Yamabiko courses.

This afternoon it is fairly clear below but up top there are clouds and poor visibility. More cloud set for tomorrow before better weather probably on Friday.   Read more ...

Furano Now!

Wednesday 22nd April 2009, 16:00pm
Weather conditions: Partly cloudy.
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Powder fans I am back! Gray skies for the last two days mark a drastic change from the previous week of glorious sunshine. The slopes were sleety, miserable and damp yesterday, with today being a bit warmer but not much more pleasant.

Surprisingly despite all of the sun and drizzle, the resort is reporting that snow base at the peak has only decreased by 10 cm over the past 5 days. This is largely due to evening temperatures rapidly dropping back to freezing.

Most of the Furano Zone is still open -- over a third of all of Furano's skiable terrain. Run conditions at the top are as good as they can get for late April. The ski out back to the ropeway is a bit patchy and sluggish, but holding together thanks to the dedicated grooming crew.

It looks like more of the same tomorrow, with daytime temps not predicted to break the single digits. We are expecting the cold weather to continue, with Thursday night dipping to -5 before the cold front finally breaks, bringing a mix of sun and cloud for the weekend. Looks like rain (or maaayybe snow, we could get lucky) on Sunday.

Looking forward to a great ride out all the way to Golden Week.   Read more ...
