Zao Now!

Thursday 1st March 2012, 9:06am
Weather conditions: Blue skies
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Welcome to March and the first day of the rest of the season. Well, that's how I always see it as the night time 'light up' operations have now finished. You can still do the nighta ski thing if you want over on the Uwanodai runs until later on this morning, but there's no more floodlit Ice Monsters up top. While still impressive looking in their own way, they are now getting past their best as we venture into March...

It's a fine start to the day in Zao with lovely blue skies, no wind and great visibility. A day for the cameras as well as the skis and boards. Not cold either and right now borderline 0 degrees - and just minus 3 up at Utopia.

A chance of some snow tomorrow but after that the weekend looks set to be fairly clear. Early next week look to temperatures in the positive and the chance of rain in the village though it should hopefully be snowing up on the mountain.

Official snow depths (1st March 12)
Utopia - 275cm
Chuo - 220cm
Paradise - 260cm
Uwanodai - 175cm

Operating lifts (1st March 12)

Shiga Kogen Now!

Thursday 1st March 2012, 9:50am
Weather conditions: Fine and clear
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
It is a fine morning here in Shiga Kogen. There's some wispy cloud up there but generally clear conditions and mild, not too far off 0 degrees at the moment. I have no new snow to report, though tomorrow does look like it should be a bit colder and we can expect to see some snowfall. Saturday might be colder still but the forecast is for generally clear skies.

Early next week we can look forward to snowfall on Monday and Tuesday - areas lower down than Shiga Kogen will very likely be seeing rainfall, but up here all being well it will be snowing.

Nozawa Onsen Now!

Thursday 1st March 2012, 10:55am
Weather conditions: Sunny day
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
It is a sunny day in Nozawa today and there are beautiful views across the valley.

The sun came out yesterday afternoon and the light was amazing, cruising down the mountain yesterday was really great.
Snow quality was great too, just the south facing slopes were getting a bit soft.

Today will be fun on the slopes as the wind is pretty much non existent. Ahead now tomorrow is looking like snow up top but rain down low as the freezing level is a bit high. It should be clearer over the weekend but back to a similar pattern early in the coming week.

Anyway enjoy the sun while it lasts.

A few are up at Kandaha race coure getting in some training for the upcoming Hato Guruma cup on March 10th should be a fun day.

Current Official Snow Depths Numbers:

Yamabiko:
390cm

Uenotaira:
380cm

Nagasaka:
265cm

Current Lift operations:
All open

Minakami Now!

Thursday 1st March 2012, 12:18pm
Weather conditions: Clear
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
A cold, clear night last night meant it was hard this morning but those clear skies also mean a day of fine weather today, which was what the forecast was predicting. The snow softened up quickly the morning and there is plenty of give on the groomers at the moment.

The snow is due back from tomorrow and into Saturday morning with a fine day forecast for Sunday. It looks like temperatures will rise next week and it could be pretty wet on Monday and Tuesday.   Read more ...
