Mostly fine clear skies
No snow to report really this morning down in the village anyway, though it is another cold morning in Zao with a temperature of -7 degrees in the village at the moment. On the mountain it is as cold as -10. It might be cold but it is a lovely fine sunny morning with lots of blue sky. It will warm up today but tomorrow is looking likely to be a warm day with temperatures rising to perhaps even double figures! It should cool down again on Sunday with a chance of more light snow.
All in all though, pretty decent conditions all round I would say for mid-March.
So generally cloudy yesterday and this morning it is a cloudy but fine start to the day... lots of cloud hanging on but some blue sky on show too - and probably more to come. A high of around 6 degrees is forecast for the day but it is quite a cold start and currently 0 degrees in the town.
There was a sprinkling of new snow overnight. My car was in neighbouring Minamiuonuma early on and there was about 2cm of snow on the car.
There is not much in the Yuzawa town area to report, but 5-10cm was forecast before 9am this morning at Kagura and.... that resort is reporting 10cm of fresh snow this morning. So conditions up there will most definitely be the pick of the bunch and evenpretty good I'd say. I'm going up there so I'll let you know tomorrow.
Sunny weather forecast for tomorrow and suddenly very warm temperatures, perhaps rising to around +13 degrees during the afternoon. There's also a good chance of strong winds especially towards the end of the day tomorrow so hopefully it won't affect the resorts during the day.
All resorts in the region are open as planned this morning.
Kagura are this morning reporting around 10cm of fresh snow!
Yes after the cloud of yesterday afternoon the snow clouds returned and gave us a valuable 10cm or so, though lower down the mountain it is less with just a few cm in the village area. We'll take it though! There will be some good runs up there, first up will have some special spring fun.
There's some cloud hanging on but there's also a fair bit of blue sky appearing - looks like it will turn into a fine day. The sun is currently casting large shadows of the hotel onto the lower slopes of Naeba.
Into the weekend tomorrow will be warm, double digit warm in Yuzawa town but how warm on the higher mountains? Don't know of course but it will be a mild one followed by a return to colder temperatures later on Sunday.
Snow down the the lower parts of Yamanouchi yesterday and we have got at least less than 5cm of snow, so not a huge amount but enough to give the area a fresh snow on trees look. It was cold overnight too and this morning -5 degrees in Maruike.
It is a very fine morning though with blue skies and just some clound hanging on. The sun is out and doing it's thing and I expect it to gradually get warmer and then warmer still tomorrow which will almost certainly be a very mild - almost warm - day. Lots of sun lined up for today and tomorrow though so a good few days to get out on the slopes. Sunday we can expect it to get colder once again and perhaps some more snow too (possibly preceeded by a dose of rain).
Have a fun weekend - pretty much the entire Shiga Kogen ski areas remain open.
Nighta this evening planned at the following resort area: - Ichinose Family
With around 700 people on the mountain yesterday, it was easy to have the runs all to yourself. Then sun came out and it ended up being a fantastic day up there. There was a light dusting of snow at 1650m to make the runs that more enjoyable.
It has been snowing for most of the night, with 5-10cm of new snow at 1650m and 3-5cm in the village. It will be partly cloudy today with some snow flurry's, getting up there early will be the best bet to take advantage of the new snow on the ground.
The forecast for the next few days shows sun until Saturday then it should be snowing until Tuesday next week. Dont put away those skis and baords yet, there is still some great snow riding to be had.
It is looking like another great day out on the mountain. There is just a very gentle breeze at the moment. Combine this with mild temperatures and extensive grooming on the main trails and you have a perfect combination for the day. More snow looks likely for the long weekend on Sunday and Monday. Light NW - W winds. Early low lying valley fog, clear at higher elevations.
Well what a good surprise we have in Hakuba this morning. A peep out the window shows a beautiful 10cm blanket of snow and to top it off a warm, clear day is expected.
Tsugaike resort are even reporting 25-30cm of snow on the mountainside and so higher up there will be some good snow conditions to find out there.
Currently we are experiencing some low lying valley fog but as I type it looks to be clearing.
Temperatures are expected to reach a max of 5 and stay in the positives for the next few days.
With a good boot cover of snow on the ground its a great day to get out and enjoy the clean white stuff, before forecast rain tomorrow night.
Enjoy the uncrowded slopes and make a straight line for your favorite powder pocket. Remember to ride safe and enjoy.
The snow mostly cleared yesterday afternoon and a few patches of sunshine occasionaly lit up the mountain. Overnight there was just a dusting and this morning has been only partly cloudy with more sunshine and temperatures getting up near freezing at village level. The winds have abated and finally the peak gates are open with some great powder to be found in the bowls after all the snow over the last few days. Some more snow is expected over the region tonight into tomorrow morning but temperatures tomorrow will rise quickly and get well above freezing and rain is expected late in the day. Today will be a great day on the mountain with plenty of fresh tracks everywhere and few people competing to get them. Good quality powder with a little sunshine and few crowds is what March in Niseko is all about!
Current Official Snow Depths:

Niseko Village: Top - 360 Bottom - 160

Avalanche Information: (Information as of this morning)
Niseko Avalanche Info No.94
Moiwa base 6am: -5℃, no fresh snow. Coastal data: W10m/s at Benkei cape, SW14m/s, 1.5m waves and 1008hPa at Kamui cape. Annupuri peak: SW6.2m/s at 6am and has been stagnating below 15m/s during the night but a south-westerly wind is forecasted to pick up around noon. Hirafu patrol peak report 6am: slight snowdrift development, -10℃ and calm condition. According to various data analysis and observations, the snow pack is stabilizing and the avalanche hazard is lowering. Peak gates are scheduled to open at 9:30. Yesterday’s snow is rounding and stabilizing, however an 80+cm slide from Mar 16th layer is still to be considered if the slope is strongly stimulated. Do not forcibly brake cornices or stimulate knolls in 1000m open steep slopes, especially in the shades as it may induce a major avalanche. Carefully choose the touring routes/riding lines. The bottom of the gully is the avalanche path that should always be avoided. Avalanches become accidents only if someone is involved in it. The snow condition differs from east to west side of the mountain, however is generally good below 1000m. Always remember that outside the gate is not the resort anymore. Blindly following a track won’t necessarily take you to a safe place. Ducking ropes or stepping into strictly off-limits areas are strictly prohibited by the Niseko Rules. Read more ...

Glorious day today with sun, blue skies and no wind around - the perfect spring day. Not much snow materialized last night, with just a light dusting at valley level when we woke up this morning. The sun and high temperatures soon put paid to that as well.
The resorts fared slightly better with a few centimetres up top and there were some good runs to be had first thing before the sun got to it. Anything not in the shade is now a bit sticky and slow.
The weekend looks like more of the same: sun with a few clouds coming in on Sunday
Spring is really here today! It's a sunny, nice day with soft spring snow that got topped off yesterday with about 5-10cm of fresh stuff.
It looks like a nice day tomorrow as well, although very warm! The sun will change to rain in the evening, turning once again to snow (sort of the pattern for the end of February and March this year). Should be a good three-day weekend overall, so come up and enjoy it!
