Snow and weather reports posted on Thursday 23rd November 2017

Pretty grim out there today. The possible snow that might have been on the cards for yesterday afternoon didn't materialize. Instead we had light rain up high and warmish temperatures. Much the same today. It is pretty warm out there. Rain down low and light snow if you go very high. Again there is the possibility that it might turn to snow later but if not, it looks like a day of rain in Minakami.
The warm temperatures of the last few days have taken their toll on the snow. It is definitely in need of a top-up but the forecast says there is a cold front moving in bring several days of snow with it.

This morning light snow is falling high up at Kagura, but it is raining in town and in lower areas. Lots of the snow that was around last week has now unfortunately gone. So not what I wanted to report this morning, but we are hoping that it will be snowing before long as the temperatures drop as the day moves on and snow is likely into tomorrow as well. The forecasts don't seem to be predicting huge dumpage though. I wish I could bring more exciting news this morning.
Some of the resorts that are part open around town level are somewhat struggling with a thin base.
No need to worry though, we are still in mid-December - it's still early days. And we all know how the snow can and does fall in this area once it gets going properly. It probably won't be long before some (silly) people hope for it to stop snowing!

It is all good news today in Furano with snow falling heavily from early this morning there is already accumulation of 10cm on the ground at base level. It will be fantastic conditons throughout the morning for the powder seekers with plenty of untouched stashes waiting to be tracked. With less people to compete with the Kitanomine Zone would be the place to head after a couple of runs in the Furano Zone. The forecast is looking favourable for the rest of the week with consistent cold temperatures and further snowfall on the forecast. Read more ...

Another 10cm of snow to report this morning from the village with the temperature around the same as yesterday as well as those winds affecting some top lifts on the mountain as well. Similar kind of conditions as yesterday really.
The forecast is looking positive for decent snowfall over the next few days along with temperatures that are going to drop further overnight into tomorrow. Tomorrow should see a return to nice cold conditions.
This morning early on the Niseko Gondola at Niseko Village is running at slower speeds. The top King Number 3 and King Number 4 lifts at Niseko Grand Hirafu, as well as the top Hanazono Number 3 quad lift, are not operating due to the wind conditions on the mountain at the time of writing.

The weather is shifting to a typical winter weather pattern as the small low-pressure system moves east. A northerly wind and snow is predicted to pick up above 800m altitude. According to the snowfall transition, observations and data, surface soft-slab avalanches of 40cm or less are likely to occur in steep slopes, cliffs and slopes with heavy snowdrift loads. Potential sliding layer: Dec 15th or 16th. The snow condition is ever changing and avalanches happen when the conditions are right. A slope that was safe yesterday may not be so today. Make sure to evaluate all risks and consequences before you drop in. The snow condition seems better than yesterdays. Gate 4 & 8 are scheduled to open at 9:30, Gate 6 at 10:00. Cloud, light snow high up
Yesterday turned out to be a fine day. Clouds are back over the mountains this morning and while it is raining lower down in the main Yuzawa town area, it is light snow up here on the mountains at Naeba and Kagura. Right now just cloud here in Naeba village area, but it is apparently snowing higher up on the mountain.
It's still pretty mild though and we are hoping that it will get colder later on today and that snow will start falling with a bit more conviction - we should be seeing some accummulation over the next 24-36 hours. It's not going to be prolonged though with clearer conditions likely later in the week.

I was hoping to bring you news of snow this morning, but while it was snowing above 1600m, down in the village here it just didn't happen.... not in the way that counts anyway -- new cm! It is snowing now though and while it is still not excatly cold hovering around the 0 degrees mark, things should get colder later in the day, overnight and into early tomorrow. Snow, please!
Tomorrow through into the weekend will probably see clearer skies over Hakuba and Otari, but look to Sunday and early next week for the potential of good snowfall.
No news from around the resorts to report really - we're all just waiting for more snow.

Light snow, cloud
Just about 1cm of snow to report this morning in Madarao, and rather wet snow is falling as I write this report. Fairly windy out there but the lifts that are due to open are moving this morning. It is definitely colder than yesterday and it should be getting colder still, and we can expect snowfall into tomorrow. Not a whole lot more to report at the moment.
After tomorrow the snow looks set to ease off and it be Sunday before we can expect more decent snowfall.

Nozawa Onsen Now!
Tuesday 18th December 2012, 10:36am
Bit of a climate change in Nozawa today, with cloud blanketing the mountains. It is doing it's best to snow in the village with temps hovering just above 0 degrees.
On the cams it appears to be dropping flakes up top, which we would expect with the 1000m vertical elevation difference from town.
Yesterday was pretty nice up top but a bit icy in places so the dusting today will be welcome and it should snow moderately all day.
Looking ahead we should be in for some serious snow from Sunday night so get out there and do your best snow dance..

Shiga Kogen Now!
Tuesday 18th December 2012, 11:15am
Clear, light snow
Snow clouds are back this morning and while we haven't had a significant dump the roads are white again and there's a thin layer of new snow on the runs around Shiga Kogen. Higher areas are covered in cloud/fog this morning but visibility is fine on lower slopes. We might get to see a few more cm of snow today and into tomorrow as it gets colder - after the once again relatively mild morning - and from tomorrow conditions are probably going to clear up. It should stay cold though which is of course a good thing.
Next decent snowfall? Late weekend, early next week perhaps?
It is just cloudy this morning but it does look and feel like it might soon be snowing. After some fairly icy conditions yesterday we could certainly do with some.
It remains mild but the forecast promises temperatures to drop this afternoon and tonight with tomorrow getting winter-like cold once again. Snow and wind as well likely tomorrow, but if the wind is part of the deal then that is fine with me!
Just as that snow level is going down, we have some fresh falling in Myoko. As I've siad a few times, things are often pretty marginal until right around Christmas here, so things are still looking good. At the moment it's pretty sloppy, wet snow, with some fairly strong winds at times. Just enough to make the streets white at the moment, but we could see some accumulation by tomorrow if it keeps going at this pace.
