We actually have something different this morning. Well yesterday was hazier than it has been but still sunny. This morning I can't see the mountains - is that fog? Whatever it is, it's raining as well early on this morning - even up at GALA Yuzawa and Kagura according to the resorts. It is forecast to clear up fairly quickly though and by lunchtime it should just be cloudy. Not as high temperatures expected today, but maybe up to around 14 degrees.
Tomorrow Naeba will be part open again for the weekend and of course GALA Yuzawa (North and Central areas) and all the Kagura areas will be open.
Cloud/sun is the forecast for tomorrow as it stands now.
Current planned resort operations:
Weekends only; then 26th-29th April and 3rd-6th May: Naeba
Daily until 6th May: GALA Yuzawa (Central and North Areas) Kagura (Tashiro area)
Daily until 25th May: Kagura (Mitsumata and main Kagura area)
All other resorts in the region are now closed for the season.
Official resort snow depths @ Friday 18th April 2014, AM: Kagura (Tashiro): 280cm Kagura (Mitsumata): 330cm Gala Yuzawa: 220cm Read more ...

Some thin cloud up there this morning but generally another fine start to the day here. It was rather chilly overnight actually - I'm seeing it was down to around -5 degrees - though a high of around 7 is expected.
We have had one or two people ask about the snow depth numbers posted below. I have explained this in a previous report before in that they are the 'official' snow depth numbers that the resort publish each day. Is there a uniform 75cm at the base of the resort? Well, no. There's still very good cover of snow on the slopes, but as you can see from the images we post each day, there's places here and there where the snow has dried up and there's ground showing through. So just take the numbers with a pinch of finest salt, but we think it is interesting to have a record of the numbers throughout the season.
Oh yes, someone else asked why we continue to post reports at this late stage of the season. The easy answer to that one is that we simply want to cover the entire Niseko season. Just because it's not peak season and it isn't snowing regularly now doesn't mean that Niseko is closed. There might not be much to report these days, but we'll be updating Niseko Now right through until the last day of the season.
(I'll very much enjoy those first few lie-ins once the reports finish though!)

We were expecting it today, and it is raining early on this morning. About 10 degrees here now though doesn't seem to feel as warm as that outside.
Fingers crossed the rain will ease off during the morning, probably leaving us with just cloudy conditions.
Sun is expected tomorrow.
Official snow depth numbers and operations at resorts remaining open (as of 18th April 2014):

Hakuba 47: Plans to be open until early May. Almost all of Hakuba 47 remains open. Upper - 145cm Lower - 30cm
Happo-one: Plans to be open until early May. Top areas (Riesen Grat, Usagidaira, Kurobishi, Panorama, Skyline) open. Need to get lift back down to base. Usagidaira - 115cm

Rain this morning I'm afraid and while the resort isn't reporting in yet this morning I doubt it is going to be snowing up top. Looks like there's close to zero visibility up there on the webcams at the moment too. Whatever, the rain clouds are due to not be with us for long.
Tomorrow the sun will be back out though curiously not forecast to be as warm today.

The good weather has mostly continued since the last update but we are getting rained on this morning in Myoko. It should hopefully be passing on quite quickly though with just cloud forecast late morning onwards. Still, we're expecting high temperatures of around 15C in town this afternoon.
Tomorrow sun is forecast though maybe not quite as warm as today. Rain expected to be back by the end of Sunday and through Monday.
Akakan and Seki still open as below.
Akakura Kanko: Myoko Kogen Sky Cable gondola and hotel No. 3 lift will stay open until May 6, or whenever the snow runs out.
