Nozawa Onsen Now!
Monday 17th September 2012, 10:05am
It has been a warm summer in Nozawa as usual. Hard to believe in a few short months we will be under a blanket of the white cold stuff again!
There has not been a lot of rain this summer - I think Mother Nature dumped so much on us this past winter she needed a rest.
Things are still very green and the rice crops are fine as we have so much natural spring water flowing through the village. Tomatoes are really sweet too, the Tourist office has a big tub out the front giving them away for free!
Mountain biking is gathering momentum in Nozawa every year and a few of the local lads have been busy building new tracks and features all over the resort. There have been a number of events and some pro riders from the UK just paid us a visit. It was good timing with the annual Lantern festival being another big success last weekend.
The Nagasaka Gondola was open for a few months over summer and made the ascent with your bike almost too easy. I think I prefer the ride up taking in all the beautiful mountain smells, working up a sweat then cruising back down the mountain. It's that free feeling not unlike the downhill buzz you get with a few planks strapped to your feet in the winter months.
The winter scene is not far away - some of the village elders are saying that because it has been a dry summer it will be a dry winter; others are saying that because we have not seen much precipitation for a few months, it will be another big winter. Many living here hope for a good winter of course, but perhaps not wanting quite as much snow as last season! Believe it or not, it was a little too much...
Anyway time will tell and we look forward to welcoming everyone back to Nozawa and another fun ski season ahead. Domo! Read more ...
