Weather conditions: ocassional snow showers and sunny breaks
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
After a mild and very wet weekend cooler air started moving over the region overnight Sunday and wet snow began falling to village level. This persisted throughout yesterday and although there was little accumulation at village level higher up on the mountain there's up over 30cm on the ground.
Today has dawned only partly cloudy and mostly fine. Besides a few snow showers little snow is forecast for the rest of the day but overnight tonight into tomorrow morning the snow showers should intensify. Snowfalls are expected to continue through to Saturday and heopfully the base will be established enough by then for a couple of lifts to open to get the season underway.    Read more ...

Weather conditions: Snow above 1,300 meters; rain at base level
New snowfall: --

The first morning that we can see the snow coming down the mountain. It's raining at base, level, but there's a clear snowline along with some very white clouds at about 1,300 meters. The clouds are descending now, so maybe the snow will come with them....   Read more ...

Weather conditions: Rain lower down, sprinkling snow high up
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
It's a chilly morning but unfortunately wet as well. It's a bit of a miserable morning here with drizzly rain falling and grey skies. A quick look at the Kagura webcam shows a sprinkling of snow up on the top area early this morning. The forecast has us down for some snow up there later on today and overnight - not a huge amount, but looks like it might give the resort a cover with only sprinklings on the forecast until the weekend.... opening might be difficult. The resort plan to announce whether they will be able to open as planned on Saturday on Thursday evening.

We will keep this page updated with the latest.   Read more ...

It's a wet morning in Yuzawa with rain falling and generally grey and gloomy clouds hanging around. Looks like it is going to be raining for pretty much all day and tomorrow as well thought it is keeping quite cold and we can expect to see snow at higher levels.

The people over at Kagura plan to announce whether they will be open on Thursday evening so in the meantime lets just hope for snow to fall!   Read more ...

Shiga Kogen Now!

Tuesday 17th November 2009, 15:17pm
Weather conditions: Snow, cloud
New snowfall: --
Snow depth: --
Well Route 292 is now closed for the winter season so how about some snowfall? Well, some snow falling this morning though it's not really turning everywhere white right at the moment....just as sprinkling at the moment.

It's just under zero so pretty cold and looks like it will get colder and we do have snow forecast for the rest of today, tonight and into tomorrow so fingers crossed for a decent snowfall.

Resorts are mostly ready for the season to start now and so we just wait for the snow.

Kumanoyu and Yokoteyama are ready to get a lift or two moving as soon as there is enough snow, and are usually the first places to be able to open. Perhaps this coming weekend?

Yakebitaiyama has penciled in an opening date of 5th December.   Read more ...
