Snow and weather reports posted on Thursday 25th May 2017
Monday 16th May 2011, 10:04am
This morning is a fine sunny one with a current temperature of 21 degrees in town and up at Kagura also warming up to around 15 degrees. We might see some showers later on today/tonight/into tomorrow but clearer weather should be back with us from Wednesday.
This last week or so has seen the snow melt a fair bit with warmer temperatures. The Mitsumata area of Kagura is now down to just thin strips of snow remaining to ski on. That really does seem to have happened quite suddenly as it wasn't long ago when it was still all white cover up there. Actually the Mitsumata lifts are now being used as "connecting lifts". While you can still ski down back to the Ropeway, the main action is now just up at Kagura where they have the No1 quad operating - the top pair lift remains closed now.

Planned lift operations at Kagura (16th-20th May):
Here we are into the very last stage of the season.... only Yokoteyama and Shibutoge remain part open in the Shiga Kogen resort area now.
They're not putting a date on how long they plan to stay open apart from "late May" - but it will probably be another week or two. Basically they will stay open as long as they can. Snow is getting patchy up there even now, so the runs are limited... at Yokoteyama the No2 course is open and the King Course is part open while the 3 runs at Shibutoge remain open. There's 2 lifts open - the Yokoteyama No2 Skylift and the Shibutoge lift. The run that connects the two areas though now doesn't have enough snow and so is closed meaning that the two places need to be got to separately unfortunately, though the ticke you can buy does cover both.
The moving walkway that allows tourists to get to the lift is also open so it's a mix of skiers, snowboarders and tourists going up there now.
Last chance for that last slide perhaps?
Official resort snow depths as of 16th May 2011 AM:
Well it's Monday once again and we have some fine warm weather to enjoy. Te last week we have had a good share of warm conditions and seen the snow melt away quite a lot from the slopes, especially over at the Mitsumata area. In fact, the runs over at Mitsumata are now purely there for connecting and getting people over to the Kagura Gondola... thin strips of snow. Lets hope they can keep them going as long as possible because when they are melted away the resort will be into transporting people from the top of the Mitsumata Ropeway to the Kagura Gondola by bus - we're not there yet though.
Over at Kagura this week just the main quad lift is operating as well as the Gondola.
We might see some showers later tonight and perhaps into tomorrow but after that clearer sunny weather with warm conditions are on the forecast for the week.
