Snow and weather reports posted on Tuesday 23rd January 2018
Wednesday 16th April 2014, 7:20am
I don't think there's any risk in a very early report this morning as once again it is more of the same. Sunny, a bit of an early morning haze. Temperatures down to only around 4 degrees overnight and today we expect another warm feeling 15 degrees in the early afternoon.
We did actually get some rain yesterday evening for a short time, but it wasn't anything major.
Maybe there'll be a bit more cloud around from tomorrow, and we are probably in for some rain Sunday/Monday according to the latest forecasts.
Current planned resort operations:
Weekends only; then 26th-29th April and 3rd-6th May: Naeba
Daily until 6th May: GALA Yuzawa (Central and North Areas) Kagura (Tashiro area)
Daily until 25th May: Kagura (Mitsumata and main Kagura area)
All other resorts in the region are now closed for the season.

Bright and hazy
It seemed really mild overnight and a look at some of the forecasts tells me that it only went down to 4 degrees before dawn, but was much warmer overnight in the hours before. Certainly felt it.
By 9am this morning we should be back up to 10 degrees and quickly zooming higher and getting warmer still this afternoon.
It's bright this morning but rather hazy.
The last week or so has seen a rapid retreat in the snow line as more ground appears on the lower areas of the mountains.
Still, there's lots of snow high up left to play in and just under 3 weeks now left to the season. Let's playing.
Official snow depth numbers and operations at resorts remaining open (as of 16th April 2014):
Hakuba Goryu: Plans to be open until early May. Top areas open, Champion Expert closed, Toomi used to get back to base though very patchy. Iimori area closed. Upper - 180cm Toomi - 35cm
Hakuba 47: Plans to be open until early May. Almost all of Hakuba 47 remains open. Upper - 145cm Lower - 30cm
Happo-one: Plans to be open until early May. Top areas (Riesen Grat, Usagidaira, Kurobishi, Panorama, Skyline) open. Need to get lift back down to base. Usagidaira - 120cm
Tsugaike Kogen: Plans to be open until early May. Upper areas remain open. Tsuganomori - 230cm
More sun and blue sky over Niseko this morning... a few more clouds as well, but it's mostly bright and fine again. Currently about 5 degrees at base but it's not expected to warm up that much today.
Similar conditions are expected tomorrow.
No new snow to report!
Niseko Grand Hirafu is hosting the FIS Official Niseko Grand Hirafu Cup GS event at the moment, until tomorrow actually. Because of this there are some courses with restrictions - Furiko Course, Green Course (partial), Alpen Course. Onsenzawa Course and the King Area connecting are completely closed to the public.

Annupuri Gondola Jumbo No1 quad Jumbo No4 pair
Niseko Annupuri plans to be at least part open until Tuesday 6th May. Niseko Grand Hirafu plans to be at least part open until Tuesday 6th May.
Niseko Hanazono Resort is now closed for the season. Niseko Village is closed at the moment but plans to re-open between 26th April and 6th May (Golden Week).
While the snow cover around the village is finally just about to let the ground break through, there is still good coverage on the mountain and fine skiing to be had for this time of year.
It is mainly cloudy at the moment but there are large patches of blue sky and sunshine being exposed. The main weather feature today will be the wind which is whipping around the base with moderate vigour and will stay that way for the rest of the day.
The outlook for tomorrow is much the same with the winds reducing on Friday, and then Saturday looking like a stunning spring ski day.
Kitanomine Zone is now closed for the season including the Link Lift and Link Course. Read more ...

Morning from Zao.
Blue skies again this morning as the run of fine weather continues - and we expect it to last until the end of the week with temperatures hitting double digits in the early afternoons.
Lots of snow around on the mountain still, more than there has been this time of year in recent seasons for sure. There's more than a few people round the village wondering why some courses and lifts are closing when there's so much snow around still. It's not peak season condition of course, but there's still very good coverage. There's not many people around now, but then again if the resort was letting people know about the conditions perhaps a bit more, maybe more people would be encouraged to come... it's a topic around town!
Operating ski lifts at Zao (* subject to change):
Sometime in April, depending on snow conditions: Yokokura Number 1 Pair Kurohime Number 1 Quad
Until 6th May: Ropeways and Gondolas (open through the year) Chuo Number 1 Pair Utopia Number 2 Pair Chuo Number 2 Pair (every day until 13th April, then holidays) Katakai Triple (every day until 13th April, then holidays) Paradise Pair (every day until 13th April, then holidays)

Nozawa Onsen Now!
Wednesday 16th April 2014, 8:30am
After yesterdays fabulously in-depth report, I'm tempted to make today's report:
NOT QUITE AS SUNNY.
Which just about sums it up really!
It's more hazy this morning, but still bright.... and warm.
The snow has been quickly melting away from lower areas of the mountain with more ground on show than white snow cover on the Karasawa area in particular. Local farmers are continuing being very busy preparing for their spring and summer seasons.
We have less than 3 weeks left to the snow season now in Nozawa: 20 days and counting.
Until today, the Yamabiko B course is closed to the public as there is a competition being held. That run should be back open and available from tomorrow.
Wednesday 16th April 2014:
Official snow depths: Yamabiko - 280cm Uenotaira - 190cm
Lifts Planned operating lifts for today: Nagasaka Gondola Yamabiko Four Yamabiko Number 2 Four
