Nozawa Onsen Now!
Wednesday 14th March 2018, 6:42am
Good morning from Nozawa.
And there really isn't much to report to you this morning... as expected, it is going to be a warm and sunny day again. Temps will be rising to the low teens C this afternoon.
And tomorrow should be a similar story too.
I don't want to believe that we won't see much (or even any?!) fresh snow again this season, though with these conditions we're having to come round to the possibility. (There, that was a dare! Part of a cunning plan!)
Wednesday 14th March 2018
Fresh snowfall since yesterday (as reported by the resort):
Clear skies, sunshine and warmth here again from early on today, and similar weather conditions are due to continue tomorrow.
Just 11cm of snow observed here in town since we entered March - the lowest since we started our 'same conditions' records in 2012. Would be interesting to go back and read our reports beyond that date to see how other seasons were before that.
A real lack of fresh snow this March, but it is really beautiful weather to be outside. (Having said that, hay fever sufferers might need to be watching out come the weekend).

Ski resorts in Yuzawa:
Checked and updated every morning. Note that some ski resorts may not have updated their own info at the time this report is published.
Mostly sunny with temps reaching 11C on the mountain yesterday. The skies were clear, though the winds became strong into the evening.
Today we’re starting off the day with some predicted light rain/light rain showers, and they should stick around all day by the looks of the forecast. Tops of 8C at the bottom and 5C at the top, with winds easing to light as we go on.
As the week goes on, it looks like we might see a tiny bit more rain come Thursday night, though that should be it for the foreseeable future (my foreseeable future is restricted to 7 days). Mostly sunny conditions for the week ahead, with the winds easing off…
Thursday: clear and sunny with moderate winds & tops of 13C Friday: snow showers with moderate winds easing & tops of 0C Saturday: clear and sunny with calm skies & tops of 4C
I just read a few of the other early reports this morning on here and I too don't really know what to say other than - more clear blue skies, sunshine and spring warmth is on the cards for today and for tomorrow too. A dip in temps can be expected Friday.

It's more of the same and will be more of the same again tomorrow as we enjoy some full on spring weather mid March. Hopefully around Friday it might get a little colder and there may even be some snow to report...
I'd say with us being higher up than many ski resorts we have the better snow conditions, though it's still 'spring mode' at the moment.
Official snow depths numbers reported by different areas of Shiga Kogen:
Please note that these numbers are the official numbers that ski resorts publish and we check and update them each morning.
Fine today with some cloud along with a very spring like feel in the air.
Some winds as well which appear to have the chance of affecting some lift operations this morning - so keep an eye on that.
Warmth expected tomorrow as well with the chance of some rain and if it gets colder especially higher up, possibly a bit of snow. More sun after that again though...
Official snow depth:
Planned lift operations (subject to change):
- APPI Gondola - Central quad - Central number 2 lift - Central number 3 lift A - Central number 5 lift - Central number 6 lift - Sailer quad - Nishimori pair
Note: The Sailer Gondola, Central Number 4 lift and Vista quad are usually rested on normal weekdays
We will endeavour to keep the reports updated regularly until the end of the season at Appi. Read more ...

Good morning all.
It's a mix of cloud and fog out there this morning by the looks with some limited visibility higher up on the slopes. Hirafu seem to be saying 'snow' on upper elevations too, but it's not snowing down here. Not raining either thankfully, but it is definitely on the mild side. (Thankfully our 'mild' is not quite on the same level as many places to the south of us here. Talk about toasty!)
I like the look of the snow on some forecasts tomorrow (less so the chance it might fall as rain). Fingers crossed the temps drop back down colder again quickly later in the day tomorrow.
Niseko Avalanche Report:
Niseko base 6am: +3℃, no snowfall, cloudy. Moiwa800m: +1℃, 1.4m/s, fog. Annupuri 1150m: -1℃, no snowfall, bad visibility. Hirafu peak: -1℃, light breeze, fog. Benkei cape: NW10m/s, Kamui cape SW4m/s, 1021hPa, 1.1m waves.
Warm airmass is flowing in and glide avalanche hazard is rising in all elevation. Creeks are swelling and snow-bridges are prone to collapse. Falling into creeks can be extremely dangerous as it would be almost impossible to come out of it. Valley bottom are where the creeks flow and also where avalanches run through. Better stay away from there. All gates are expected to open as the weather ameliorates. Please follow the patrol’s instructions.
This information is released in hope to prevent accidents in the out of bounds areas. If everybody is aware of the risks involved, most accidents can be avoided. Regretting after the accident is too late. Always be vigilant and do not underestimate the risks. Large glide avalanches are likely to happen from slopes with large snowdrift deposit at 1000m. Better stay away from avalanche path and valley bottoms. The mountain is rapidly shifting to Spring. Have a nice day.

Good morning from Naeba! It's another bright start in the valley today. The current air temperature is 0°C, with the forecast predicted it will push up as high as 9°C today in the valley. The snow is hard this morning, but will soften up as the sun breaks over the opposite mountain tops. It will be a classic spring day today, with little wind and lots of sun!
Looking forwards, we can expect the temperature to be even warmer tomorrow, with predictions of 11°C in the valley at lunchtime. Some cloud will move into the valley overnight tomorrow, bring very modest accumulations of snow, along with some brisker winds. The skies will clear for Saturday, but clouds will push in again on Sunday bringing further precipitation. This is currently predicted to fall as snow at the top of the mountain. Read more ...

Another spring day in Myoko; no other word for it.
Yesterday was super warm, and the snow off in the trees was a nice corn (easy turns, nice scenery).
It is sticky; wax up and get out there and have some warm-weather fun.
Heading out early today and will get up high and check out the snow on the peak. Hope the resorts area early on their reports, too... will mark appropriately
It's warm. A Japan-wide thing by the way, but still difficult not to be surprised at just how warm it is feeling. 8C early on. It might get slightly more so tomorrow with temperatures set to rise a few above ten degrees.
Two lifts have now finished up for the season - the Karamatsu and Diamond Number 1 lifts. No full details as yet but expect some lifts to be open until Golden Week - snow permitting of course. (And of course the Ropeways are operating throughout the year for sightseeing).
Lifts and course info:
- All lifts should be moving as planned - Exceptions are the Diamond Number 1 and Karamatsu lifts which are now closed for the season - All areas apart from Karamatsu are open
It is warm today and we are already on the high temperature for the day of +4c. The village will stay at this temperature all day and dip down to freezing early evening. It is a nice day with sunshine that is forecast to stay with us through the day. Read more ...
