Snow and weather reports posted on Thursday 18th January 2018

It is more of the same this morning as was forecast and already about 10 degrees in Yuzawa town, with a high of around 15 degrees later on. Even warmer tomorrow according to the local forecast.
High pollen count as well at the moment so more than a few people making their way through the day with hayfever masks on and sneezing uncontrollable (myself including re: the latter).
We still have a fair amount of snow as well this year with a meter or so of snow on the top of lots of rice fields around town. This isn't the best of news for farmers who will soon be wanting to get crops prepared and so there are quite a few diggers busy breaking up the snow to try and get it to melt faster.
It's a warm one today. Already into double digit temperatures and a likely high of around 15 degrees this afternoon. The sun is out and blue skies all around. What more can I say? I'm going to get out there for some fun!
Down at village level for the most part snow has now melted away. Looking around now, there are fairly big patches of ground on show on the lower slopes of Happo as well. Those slopes are now closed of course and it is mid-April, so there's no drama there - we have certainly done well for snow this season! See below for updated info on what is open.
Official snow depths and operations @ Thursday 14th April AM:
Hakuba Goryu: The upper slopes at Goryu plan to be open until 8th May. The Gondola and Alps No3 pair lifts are operating. The Alps No1 pair will be open on Saturdays/Sundays and from 29th April until 8th May. The Toomi lifts are closed, but as long as there's enough snow on the lower slopes we can still ride down to the Gondola base. Alps daira - 220cm.
Hakuba 47: All lifts except Line D lift operating with all courses still open. 47 plans to be open into May. Snow depth (upper) - 168cm
Happo-one: The Gondola, Alpen Quad, Kurobishi No3 pair and Panorama pair lifts are operating. The upper slopes are planning to be open until 5th May. All of the lower lifts are now closed for the season - you need to take the Gondola down to the base at the end of the day. Course areas open are: Kurobishi, Usagidaira and Panorama. (The Grad quad will also be open on weekends and during Golden week, at those times opening up that top course as well). Usagidaira/Kurobishi - 165cm
Tsugaike Kogen: The Gondola as well as the Tsuga No2 pair and Han-no-ki high speed pair lifts in the upper area of the resort are operating. It is possible to ski/board right down from the top to the bottom of the resort via the Han-no-ki and lower Kawamatsu courses. Snow depth upper - 245cm

Sunny clear skies
There's not much to report this morning other than - same as yesterday! So it's fairly warm and very pleasant out there at the moment, with a real feeling of spring out there. And we are going to see more of the same once again tomorrow, perhaps warmer.
Things to remember - sunglesses/goggles and suncreen. And watch out for pollen if you suffer from hayfever as it is affecting quite a few people at the moment.
Monday 9th May until Sunday 15th May: -Nagasaka Gondola -Yamabiko quad lift -Yamabiko No2 quad lift Read more ...

Sun, clear skies
Just over one more day before Zao re-opens for the weekend!
We have had a mix of weather the last few weeks, as you might expect, but a fair few good clear days. It has kept fairly cold up on the mountain though especially in the evenings and still a lot of snow around. We even saw 2cm of fresh snow in the village on Tuesday morning. It has been warm the last few though and temperatures climbing to around 10 today.
So it should be great to get out there on the slopes on Saturday morning. The resort will be open Saturday and Sunday and then after that from Saturday 23rd April until the end of Golden Week (provisional last day 8th May).
We are seeing very similar conditions this morning in Shiga Kogen. Sun, warm with a slight breeze and not a cloud in the sky. It started off fairly chilly but we'll probably have a high of around 9 degrees this afternoon. More cloud tomorrow and even a slight chance of rain or snow higher.
It's still looking good for some decent snowfall early next week.

Fine and clear
Another beautiful day up north with clear skies and mild temps. We had a little snow on the upper mountain a few nights ago and then a little rain yesterday morning but otherwise it's been mostly fine and sunny. The cover is holding up well on the mountain and there's still top to bottom skiing. Over the coming week we are expecting it to get quite warm on Friday with temps getting up into the mid teens then rain on Saturday. Beyond that it is expected to be mostly fine and temps quite a bit cooler.
I'll be away for the next week or so and so there will be no reports for a while.
Current Official Snow Depths:
Grand Hirafu: Top - 335 Bottom - 110
Niseko Village: No longer reporting snow depth
Annupuri: Top - 305 Bottom - 100
This season's Niseko Avalanche Information is finished
We are in the middle of a run of fine sunny days here in Minamami... warm too. Resort operations mostly as planned though Kawaba in Katashina nearby has decieded to open for a further weekend (see below). More fine conditions tomorrow and perhaps some cloud (and even rain) before a return to the sun on Sunday.
Looking into next week we may even get some snowfall up top at Tenjin.
Tanigawa Tenjindaira: The resort is now open and plans to be open until 8th May. The downhill course is now closed for the season.
Marunuma Kogen: Part open with No5, No3 and No1 lifts operating. The resort plans to be open until early May.
Kawaba: Two lifts are operating at Kawaba. The resort has decided to open for two more weekends - Saturday 16th and Sunday 17th April and then Saturday 23rd and Sunday 24th April.
White World Oze Iwakura, Norn Minakami, Houdaigi, Okutone and Minakami Kogen 200 are now all closed for the season.
