Sunny with cloud
We can expect pretty much the same as yesterday with the sun out but interrupted by cloud. It ended up being a warm sun yesterday but temps were steadied by the light wind. That wind is still around today as well.
was expecting a light fall of snow late yesterday but it didn't eventuate so no new snow over night. In fact we now might have to hang out till mid week to see any new snow.
Kitanomine Zone is now closed for the season including the Link Lift and Link Course. Read more ...

Mostly clear and sunny
Bright and sunny once again this morning in Hakuba with just a bit of thin high cloud here and there. Lots of blue sky though and we're expecting fine spring weather conditions today and tomorrow (and beyond for most of the week).
So there you go!
It's the Spring Festival and Happo Super Mogul competition today - with special guest local Olympian Aiko Uemura making an appearance. Head up to Usagidaira (at Happo-one) to check out some of the fun, starting from 9:30am. The all important 'Arigato Ceremony and Talk Show' (with Mr Uemura) is at 11am.
Official snow depth numbers and operations at resorts remaining open (as of 13th April 2014):

Lovely blue skies over Zao this weekend along with mild conditions.
Perfect spring ski/board weather.
The same is forecast right up until Thursday with things getting slightly warmer as well towards the end of the week.
It's not exactly very close to Zao Onsen - actually an 80km or so drive from Zao - but I'm sure some people reading this will be interested.... Gassan opened yesterday. Gassan is to the north west of Zao, still in Yamagata Prefecture, and famous for only opening at this time of the year and offering snow skiing up until (usually) the end of July. It's certainly an interesting way to escape the heat of early summer.
Operating ski lifts at Zao (* subject to change):

Lots of sun again yesterday and some fine spring conditions to be enjoyed. Some people out in t-shirts, others still in full winter gear. I chose somewhere in the middle as it was still fairly chilly higher up.
Today is the last day of the season for Maiko Snow Resort and I have been hearing reports that conditions were good over there yesterday, still with almost complete snow cover on the runs. Good to hear, shame it has to end...
Naeba will be closed again from tomorrow leaving us with just GALA Yuzawa and Kagura open for the weekdays.
